Duraflap Installation

For those of you sitting on the fence over which mud flap to buy for your 04-07 F150, this post is for you. If you are among those who purchased something just to get by, then this post may also be for you.

In scouting for the ultimate mud flap for my truck, I visited retail stores, shopped online, browsed numerous forums, reflected on the experience I had with my Explorer, and then finally decided to give DuraFlap a try.

DuraFlap is a small company in Grants Pass Oregon. Dennis produces high quality mud flaps for all the domestic trucks, both small (Explorer sized) and large (1-ton dually’s). DuraFlap offers custom built flaps for those with lifts or extra wide tires.

I called DuraFlap on a Thursday and after speaking with Nina, determined that DuraFlap’s drill-less flap for F150 rear 04-07 would be the best choice for my rear application. In considering the 2” leveling kit on the front, we decided that a custom length drill-less flap without holes added would be a good choice. DuraFlap offered to include the template for Y axis positioning of the holes once I determined the proper height from the ground to compensate for my 2” lift.

The flaps arrived one week later in sturdy cardboard packaging. The instructions were crystal clear and the hardware kit was of the highest quality stainless steel. Installation of the rear flaps was relatively easy. I had them installed in about 30 minutes. Re-alignment of the fender strut was the most challenging part of installing the rear flaps.

Installing the front flaps, I ran into some issues. The template was missing and the instructions were actually for the F250, as was the mounting kit. I contacted Dennis and he emailed me the CAD drawings for the front flap so I could measure and drill. A couple more phone calls later, and some emailed photographs, and we realized that I had the wrong kit! No worries, Dennis packaged up a new installation kit, emailed me the instructions for both front and rear flaps (I already had the rear, but appreciated having an electronic copy), and put the kit into the mail.

As of this writing (only a couple days after talking with Dennis and Nina), I’m still waiting the kit, but since I’m not in a big hurry, no worries.

A note at the bottom of the invoice reads, “If you like our flaps, tell your friends; if you don’t like our flaps, tell us”. I really appreciate this note, because all too often a consumer will feel they have just cause in badmouthing a vendor before making even a simple phone call. In this case, I’m very happy with my product even though I don’t have the front flaps on just yet.

I highly recommend DuraFlap for all F150’s, especially if you have installed mud tires or if you plan to tow. While the moulded flaps have their attributes, I do not believe they offer nearly the protection and long life that these flaps will.

If you mention that you are a member of the F150Online forum, you will receive a 10% discount. My total cost was around $211. They only ask that you spread the word if you are happy with your product. Contact Duraflap at http://www.duraflap.com/ but call to order especially if you have a non-stock truck (lifts or bigger tires).

thats alot of money upfront, but they look great, and if they last the life of the truck, then its a worthy investment.

PS great color choice on the truck

thanks! It wasn't my first choice in color, but it's really starting to grow on me.

Hey, you know... I figure a $35K truck deserves the best protection. If these do last the life of the truck, then I'm ahead. My previous flap was ProFlap and I had those on my Explorer. You can see them in the gallery. They were pretty well indestructible and I believe these flaps are even better.

For $29 the molded Husky liners works just fine for me, they have them for the front too!

I've had the dura flaps installed for a year and a half without issues... they're doing their job just fine.
