I just ordered a Ride Rite system FIP2350 and the Air System FIP2097. My question is for those that have the onboard compressor. Where are you guys mounting the compressor? I was thinking someplace under the hood.

 

I was wondering the samething, as right now I have the bags but not the on-board compressor.

 

On my old truck I had a set of bags on the rear.I picked up a 3 gal air tank and mounted it under the truck on the frame.I then picked up a solenoid.The solenoid was on the output of the tank and 1/2 line ran to the bags.I had a small
compressor under the truck mounted inside a marine waterproof battery box.
It worked great lasted 4 years with not a single problem.I was going to get a larger air tank and compressor so it could be used to supply air for tires and such but never got around to it.I ran with just the bags tied together to a line run down by the rear bumper to fill or deflate.The tank made filling the bags very fast and if done correct the tank would hold air for a good long while so that the compressor did not have to run every time I wanted a little air.ridetech.com is where I got all my parts and info as its air rides website they have just about any thing from 4 links to basic rear kits.Very good source for air bag info and parts.

 

I mounted my compressor just above the main hitch support. Honestly i feel like buying a secondary air system (for tires, etc...) and having shcrader valves put on the bags while keeping the air gauge hooked up for monitoring. As much as i change the psi in the bags its worthless to have a air compressor hooked up 100% of the time.

 

is there anyway you could post a picture of that? I am having a hard time understanding how you did that one.

 

Kit has arrived.... I will be doing the install over the 4th, as I will be hauling a load of block and a load of sand.

I will try and take some pictures during the install.

 

did you get the compressor kit, too? dual or single. i've been lookin into the air lift quick shot with the accessory lines on the 2 gallon tank

 

I ahve a setup on my F250. I have the onboard compressor also. I put mine
in front of the furl tank mounted along a x-member.

I have had it for over a year with no problems. I have a dual switch and dual gauge in the cab. We air it for no load, bumper pull trailer (just for more air cusion) and a large 3 horse w/living quartered trailer.

I just put a 2" shackle kit on my 06 F150 and am thinking of putting one on it for so sag when I pull.

 

Got the Air System FIP2097 which is the heavy duty air compressor with the single switch. I am going thru the truck right now looking for places to mount the air pump, and the control panel. FX4's don't leave alot of underdash real estate for gauges and trailerbrakes. I think I am going to move the brakebox to the side of the center console and mount the control panel where the brakebox was.

I am fixing to crawl under my truck right now and look at the crossmembers, yours is a 250 so it might be different. did you have a problem with the elements and the compressor??? You are in houston, so I don't know how often you have slush that coats the underside of your truck and turns into solid ice. I think that I might want to put mine under the hood somewhere, but I am gonna look anyway cause that would be so simple to install and plumb.

 

Under the truck on the inside frame rail is great for the compressors.

 

Well Guys, after 2 days of torment I finally found the perfect place to mount this friggin compressor. I have a tendancy to want to have that factory look.

I mounted it on the drivers side fender in front of the coolant return tank. I had to relocate a breaker box (think that is what it was) and do some modifications to the compressor mount and use alternate mounting hardware.

Well here is the photos I took to give you the idea.

Part 1

After removing air intake and relocating box


Had to remove this bracket from the compressor and modify and install backwards to get more clearance for the coolant return line.


Mounted.


Used pop-rivets instead of the supplied hardware.

Airintake, and coolant hose reinstalled.


Plenty of clearance and will be close to good ground, power and the control panel.


I am pretty friggin happy with the way it turned out. I would have mounted it on the frame if I lived in a different climate, but with the amount of rain and snow and ice that we see this was better suited.

Now I have to install the bags, and find a location for the control panel. I think that I have an idea for that but if anyone has a real good idea for a single switch control panel for the air unit in a FX4 with the flow thru console please let me know.

Looks very nice, and clean!! If I do end-up getting the compressor unit I think that I may go with the same location. It would be even easier for me since I don't have the stock intake to deal with.

 

Part 2

Control panel installation.

Well I was planning on moving my brake box and putting it there. But I was not happy with the way the factory mount left the back side open and left the airlines and wires exposed. It did not look right, so I decided to mount on right side of dash.

It was simple, plenty of room for running wires and airlines. With a dremel tool it took about 10 mins to do. Use the factory mount as a template for the holes and thats it.

Dash apart, came apart easy.. made alot of noise that will make your heart stop, but it came apart.



Finished product. Although it is sorta blocked by steering wheel, I don't think I will be doing much adjusting while driving.



Well I still have to mount the bags and plumb and wire the thing. I will take some pix when I am finished or if I run into a problem that I can't modify my way out of.
