Rear Gap Guard Install for Body Lift (is welding necessary?)

The directions for my gap guards say to weld a piece to fasten the rear gap guards. Its like a 3ft long metal piece with holes in it. Is the welding really necessary? How did you install yours?

Thanks

i havent seen anyone done that to their frame, you know that if you do weld on to your frame your warranty is void on the frame?

I think it is asking me to weld it to the bed. Its really confusing. Im hoping someone that has installed these will chime in.
