Stalling update

Well after researching multiple threads I came to the conclusion that the TPS was a common denominator in almost all the stalling threads where parts were replaced and the problem was fixed. Mine started stalling out of the blue at 62K(if I remember correctly it did it a few times at about 10K but then stopped so I figured it was teh computer having a "hicup"). I ordered the part from a dealership in TX off the net, I'm in MO and the cost was half as much as the local places wanted and no taxes. So far I have had no problems and I've noticed when slowing down to stop/turn(that's when it always died) the RPM's only go down to about 550 as opposed to the 400-450 they used to go down to. So I'm praying that this was the fix and I haven't had it stall yet. It's only been a couple of days, if it's going to stall it will probably be this weekend going to/coming from the lake. If it happens I'll let you know. Anyway, those of you with a stall you might want to replace it, it's $52 shipped to your door and it takes a #20 torx bit to change. Took about 20 minutes to do.

Mine did this for the first time the other day in the drive through, it just cut off like I had turned off the key. It also has a surging problem at light throttle and it idles a little erratic, up and down slowly here lately.....this may just be my problem! Did you ever get a check engine light or anything?

Mine is an early 04(built 03) FX4 Screw with the 5.4

I had the surging too since it was new(pretty badly), and very rarely it erratic idle but it got worse recently. I noticed the new TPS was differnt from the one that was one it so I don't know if it was an updated part or not. For the little bit I've driven it I don't remember it surging like it did but I wasn't paying attention to that I was watching the RPM's when stopping. Mine would just flat out die also, not sputter or anything just like turning off the key.

I'm going to have to try this out..... Mine is getting worse. The surging is really bad now and almost everytime I slow and turn, it will idle way down and then jump back up right before it stalls. It has only actually stalled once but it is close everytime.

Now is this the sensor on the throttle body or the one down at the pedal??

I wish somebody knew whether it was the sensor on the pedal or the one at the throttle body and I'd go order it in a second!

Hey all. Sorry I've been on vacation.

I replaced the sensor on the TB. There are 3 sensors on the pedal. Replacing the one on the TB also got rid of the surging and I have much better response!. My wife even notices it, she drives it most of the time b/c I commute a ways to work and she works close to home and drives the kids around. She doesn't know how to put gas in a car(well almost) and if she notices it's better, then it's better.

Also you can order the sensor off the net from a place in TX for $43. My dealer wanted $85 for the part. I recieved it within 2 days, that's worth $40 to me to wait.

The dealer part is a "improved" version.

The place in TX was a ford dealership. I guess they just understand there are 2 ways to make a profit. You can either sell few items at higher margin or you can sell more items at less margin. Either way it was a motorcraft part from a dealership.

That narrows it down to about 10,000 dealers. Nothing a bit more exactly like a Dallas dealer that went by a name like Billy Bob Ford?

I got a new TPS today and put it on and it fixed my erratic idle problem perfectly! Very easy to do, took like a minute and it was like $65.

Well maybe I should do this. My truck has never stalled but lately I have noticed that its been idleing down to 400 at times, and I also have had a surging problem since new that has gotten worse lately.
