Third Brake light leaking...
Third Brake light leaking...
Had a pretty good rain storm yesterday and found my back seat wet... I do know that the third brake lights leak on some of the models... So my questions is...... Has anyone tried fixing the leak themselves, or have you gone to the dealer??? If you Have fixed it yourself what did you use?
I am still under waranty but dont feel like dealing with them if I can just get it done quicker and with less of a headache...
Additional question what does anyone use to clean there cloth seats?

Just my uneducated opinion.....
If your seat is wet its probably the back or side window rather than the brake light. Its my understanding that if the brake light leaks it tracks down onto the floorboard. If its still under warranty I would take it in.
Sorry you have to deal with water in the cab.

There is a good thread covering how to test and fix this problem yourself:

I just "fixed" mine this weekend (I haven't tested yet to see if it still leaks). The foam gasket had slid towards the inside of the light along the top edge. It was hot enough out that I could carefully pull the foam gasket off the light and then reposition it to where it is supposed to be. If this doesn't work I will get some weather stripping to put in place of the foam.
Mine was okay until I went to one of the automatic "brushless" car wash places. The water nozzles sprayed water so hard around the 3rd tail light that it pushed the incredibly cheap foam gasket down, allowing water to run onto my headboard and then drip down onto my seats when I would make turns. Took it to the dealer and got it fixed. I am recently no longer under warranty, so the next time it happens I will just replace the gasket, cause I don't think I want to pay for another assembly. The guy at the dealer said that's the only thing you can buy; Ford doesn't sell the gasket alone.
