I have been in many REAL 4X4 trucks in my time.. I'm from Kentucky.

Even though It was meant as a comlete joke directed toward you..... I'll rephrase.

Ahem.. If I had 38" tires, I'd rather have 4.88 gears at least. That would make me happy. I would most likely have 5.13's though because that would give me the grunt i wanted down low because I already have 38" tires and I obvisually don't give a crap about gas milage.

Fixed

bud you have 36's and pull a boat. you best get the 4.88's. you wont regret it. and your rpm's should not be to bad on the highway. and even if they were you could just slow down a tad and cruise in the slow lane and give everybody that passes you a glimpse at your kick a$$ ride.

me- 38's + 4.56's and couldnt be happier
You could be happier if you had the 4.88's

Go with the 4.88's! That is what I have on my truck. I do a split amount of highway and city. I drive home about once a month and it is 180 miles and I speed. In order to prevent any legal issues or ethical/reckless problems I won't give any numbers. But I get about 13-15 on the highway. I also have the 4.6...just throwing that out there. I have no problem speeding or holding it there for an couple hours. If your mileage conscious, which I doubt you are, for obvious reasons, I would go with 4.56. If you want the best bang for buck and lots of low end power 4.88's are for you.

I'm paying $1600 for 4.88s with tax/labor and a differential cover.

As soon as I get my truck on the dyno, I'll be getting them. I can't wait. I feel like its Christmas Eve.

I'm looking at 4.56's locally, most quotes in my area are in the $1600+ range with either Ford Racing or Precision gearsets. I've got a buddy at local dealer checking shops they sub to maybe to find a better price, but I don't think it will be that much better, honestly. Big labor hit on the front end, apparently.

It's a job no one wants to do, and if they do it they want to make $$$ off of it. Thats why prices are high.
