Unhappy HELP: Cargo Lamp -- How can I disable it?

The Cargo Lamp on my '05 comes on whenever I unlock the door, or open the door. I don't like the cargo lamp turning on like that.

The manual doesn't say anything about how to disable. I supposeI can remove the bulbs, but that is too Draconian of a measure. The other option could be some fuse located somewhere.

Is there a better way? Thanks in advance.

I remember 70's and 80's trucks having dedicated switches for the cargo lights, back before auto makers got cheap.

Among other things, it's illegal to have a white light on in the rear of a vehicle going down the highway. So if you turn your interior light on while driving and the right ***** of a cop is behind you he could pull you.

Actually there was a post a while back about someone who got pulled over for having the cargo light on.....BUT that's why there is seperate buttons on the individual lights for the interior lights to be turned on seperately while in the truck. As far as preventing it from turning on when unlocking, the only way is to roll the interior light switch to the OFF position.

......They can, will and do pull people over for stupid crap regularly so that they might find a more serious infraction.

i was told that ford did away from the cargo light switch to prevent people from leaving it on when they are driving as it is both illegal and unsafe. now they have it tied in with the dome light so that the driver relizes it is on.

the easy way is to roll the interior dimmer switch all the way to the bottom and it will click, this is the dome light overright.....but FORD shoulda put it on a separate switch (light honda for example) because your instruments have to be full dim. dumb! (i know the 98 somoma has a separate overright switch too)

I think you have other issues that the cops look at you for. That is really minor and not an infraction inforced unless there are other circumstances. Sorry.. but I think it is you that is the problem.. .not the light

So you are saying that no one has EVER been pulled for such a minor infraction?
