I went through a similar process when I bought my F150, although it was before the new GM trucks were announced. I replaced a 7 year old Tahoe and a 2 year old Sierra with a SuperCab F150. The decision on GM vs Ford really came down to price and finding an F150 very close to the way I would have ordered one. The comparable GM trucks were about $5K net more than the Ford which is what really made the decision for me. The down side on the Ford is I do not feel the seats are a comfortable as the GM trucks and is down on power compared to 5.3 in the 02. Do not notice it too much in normal driving, but pulling ~ 6K lbs on long grades it is very apparent. It still does the job well, but not as easy as the GM.

Make sure, whatever you buy, that the dealer you get it from has a decent service department. In the long run it will be worth paying a little more at dealer who takes care of the customer; a couple of thousand will seem like nothing if the service department is a major pain in the rear.

My brother has an 05 silverado and I have an 04 f150. When riding in his truck it feels more like riding in a car than a truck and the interior seems cheap compared to mine.
I also tow a 6500 camper with my truck and does relatively well. I can leave it in overdrive until I get in the foothills or mountains. I would love the diesel to tow with but don't want a truck the size of the 250 so I will just wait until the diesel is offered in the 150.

Hey Guys this is the kind of great input I was looking for. Honestly when I drove them both I felt that the F-150 had a better interior than the GM, but I did like both trucks. I'm 5'11 130 pounds so the comfort of both trucks to me seemed great, but my current truck (98' K1500 Silverado SCSB 4WD) isn't exactly comfortable, so stepping up to something this nice (either truck) is like going from a Neon to a Cadillac. I guess it just erks me that on the GM you have to pay an extra 4,000 $ bucks on the 1/2 ton to get an axle they used standard in the last generations of pickups for years. I think the 5.3L is a great motor, but I looked at the curb weights as well for both trucks, the Ford is 5450 and the GM is 5210, so really they aren't must different in weight. I'm just worried about having an all around great truck for Daily Driving, and towing when I need it to. Looking at the GM's with the 5.3L in them, I don't know if they are up to that challenge, and that dinky little rear axle just bothers the hell out of me.

Great thread so far. I personally have never owned a GM product, but I have owned nissan and dodge trucks. I purchased my f-150 to tow about 6-7k and also wanted good interior room with a nice interior. My Boss recently purchased a 07 avalance loaded. The interior is very nice on the new chevys, although it did seem a bit smaller than my ford. Overall I have been very pleased with my ford. At 25k miles in 9 months I dont have a rattle or squeek from anywhere and I am recently got 18 mph driving a 500mi round trip. I have overloaded it and towed 7-8k for 8 hours one way in the hill country with 2 passengers. Didnt have a single problem and was able to easily keep it above 65 on the hills while averaging 11 mpg. Overall I believe these 2 trucks are the best currently on the market. Compared to my dodge the quality is nighht and day difference. This truck still looks and drives like the day it came off the lot and has given me 0 issues, although a suspect a leaky injector that will need to be releaced.

And, unless you buy certain options, you get vintage drum brakes at the ends of that GM axle.

Someone traded in an '07 Silverado Crew Cab LT at my work with 450 miles on it. They bought a Titan. Not trying to influence your decision one way or another, but simply throwing this out there for knowledge. Good luck whatever you decide, and remember the interior (where you will spend 99% of the time) is the BEST on the Ford trucks.

ill have to say that titan is a hell of a truck, may not look nice but it has power, and in my opinion outperforms ford and chevy when it comes to towing! we towed my 5000lb boat form az to ca, coming back on the 40 tou can encounter some major hills this thing ran like a champ. by the way its my bros truck!

Titan sucks. Poor crash test ratings. Shoddy construction. Pure crap all around. And they left the heavy duty market because they couldn't run with the big boys.

you may want to re check your facts, nissan has a 5 star frontal crash rating along with a 4 star side!

The Nissan Titan has 4 out of 5 for the passenger side. Ford has 5 out of 5 driver and passenger. The Titan looks like garbage as well.

I don't think there is enough difference between the two to be concerned with. I would base my decision on price of comparably equipped vehicles. I don't think one is worth thousands of dollars more than the other.

When I bought my F-150, I took my minimum specifications to Ford, Chev/GMC, Toyota and Dodge, told them the dealers I was pricing and was going to buy based on price. The prices came in within $500 of each other but the Ford had far more options (and the Toyota the least) so I bought the Ford on price. Paid $22,549 for a truck that stickered for almost $32,000.

one of the biggest things I don't like about the new Chevys is that mini van looking interior

when I am driving a truck I want to feel like I'm in a truck

your missing my point they arent as ****ty as you claim they are! they are right there with ford in safty and outperform it.

jut to let you know my bro picked his fully loaded Titan for 32K... if i were to buy another 1/2 ton id consider a titan!

The biggest difference to me between the GM and Ford was where the power is delivered. The 5.4 gives you great low end power where the 5.3 needed to be pushed higher in the rpm's. It felt a little weak under 2,500rpm. The 5.3 shines in the higher rpm's while the 5.4 shines below 3k. For a truck the 5.4 is better IMO and that's one of the biggest reasons I stuck with another Ford. Throw a tuner in it and you will love it, Ford's factory tune really does nothing for the 5.4.

if youre penny pinching, go for a silverado...

you can get a full 4 door 4x4 with the 5.3 for 29 grand right now. I love the way they look. I just cant get out of my f150 right now. If i could i would be in a silverado, they got some great deals goin on em lately too.

only downfall i see on the silverado is the interior but its something i can live with.

comparing an f150 with no center console (no center shifter etc etc) compared to a silverado with no center console, theres no question ford's is 100% nicer.

btw thanks 98ultraz for posting that regular cab pic. i checked out the rest in your photobucket.

i like the way that looks. to this day ive only seen the new silvy reg cabs in work truck form, that z71 looks nice tho, how much did the regcab run ya?
