Angry Still Having Tranny Problems!

Refer to this post for the previous problems. https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=286013

Well, I got my truck back from the dealer last week and it shifted like it was supposed to for awhile. The dealer installed heavier duty clutches in 1st gear and replaced the clutches in 2nd gear.

I started having problems again this week after driving it only 900 miles or so since I got the truck back. This problem is really only apparent driving in stop and go traffic. The past 2 times I've gotten it back from the dealer and after I put about 1000 miles on the truck the problem pops up again. I took it back to the dealer today and told him the situation. I have to drive 320 miles from job site next week so the dealer told me to bring it back to them as soon as I get back into town. For some reason it really starts acting up after a long drive, but the problem gets worse the more miles I drive.

There is something going on during the 1-2 shift that the dealer hasn't been able to fix. It is hard shifting/slipping and there is a shudder throughout the drivetrain when it happens. I only have 16,700 miles on my 06 F150 4X4, so thankfully all of this is under warranty. This is the 4th time I'll take my truck to the dealer for the same problem.

This will be the dealer's last chance to fix the problem. If I still have issues after this I can start the Lemon Law process against my truck.

Has anyone here had any similar problems with their truck??

Thats Bs, less than 24k on the clock and your making multiple trips while they throw parts at your truck hoping it works. Mechanics do this all the time. Not much money in diagnosing a problem, but throwing parts at it sure seems to pay well. hope you get a resolution soon

I asked them why they didn't just replace the transmission. Their reply was that Ford has a policy that they will only replace the transmission if the rebuild cost is more than 70% the cost of a transmission replacement. They called up Ford's hot line and the experts at Ford told them to rebuild 1st and 2nd gear in the transmission. I've been trying to get a new transmission since the 2nd trip to the dealer, but at this point I'm one problem away from Ford having to buy my truck back.

This problem cost Ford about $8000 in one month. I'm also having issues with my 4X4 system. Last week they found a blown fuse (wonder what caused that?). This week it sounds like there is pea gravel in the transfer case. So, I've got to leave the truck with the dealer for another week sometime for the 4X4 problem. They might as well work on the transmission again while it's in the shop.

I have just over 12,000 miles on my 06 Screw and mine acts up during stop and go traffic also - same situation between 1 and 2 shift.

When you slow down then speed up thats when a slight shudder happens right? It doesn't do it every time (shudder) but I did notice a few times last weekend when it did. For the most part, I get a strange shift almost like a clunk.

I had them look at around 8k miles and they updated the PCM with different shift points. Time to go back I guess.

Mine originally started at around 6,000 miles, but didn't get it to the dealer till it had 12,000 on it. You seem to be experiencing a very similar problem. Except I wouldn't call mine a slight shudder. Mine will do it with very light throttle.

Now I have heavier duty clutches in 1st and 2nd gear which really makes a shudder when it does shift. I don't understand why they don't put a completely new transmission in it.

I think something is wrong, and hope they don't tell me it's normal. I've never felt anything like this driving other vehicles in the same conditions.

TSB
06-22-7 UN-COMMANDED TCC APPLY ON THE 1-2 SHIFT CAUSING PERCEPTION OF HESITATION AND/OR LACK OF POWER DURING SHIFT

Publication Date: October 26, 2006

FORD: 2005-2006 Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, E-150, E-250, Expedition, F-150
LINCOLN: 2005-2006 Town Car
2006 Mark LT

This article supersedes TSB 06-8-2 to update the Service Procedure and add Service Labor Times.

ISSUE:
Some 2005-2006 vehicles with a 4R70/75E-W may experience an un-commanded torque converter clutch (TCC) apply or TCC partial apply immediately after the 1-2 shift. This may result in the perception that the vehicle lacks power or that the transmission is up-shifting too early. No DTCs are set during this condition.

ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure for verification and repair.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Monitor (TCC %) solenoid command state - duty cycle and (TC SLIP ACT) torque converter clutch slippage - RPM, while in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear with a TCC % reading 0.
If TCC % = 0 and TC SLIP ACT = less than 20 RPM then inspect the number 7 check ball (Figure 1) in the main control valve body for damage. Replace as required following the appropriate Workshop Manual (WSM) under Disassembly and Assembly of Subassemblies - Main Control Valve Body.

Figure 1 - Article 06-22-7

NOTE: THIS PROCEDURE IS PERFORMED IN 2ND GEAR AUTO (NOT MANUAL 2) MONITOR (TC SLIP ACT) AFTER THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) COMMANDS 2ND GEAR AND BEFORE THE VSS READS 35 MPH (56 KM/H).

If you receive any other reading, this TSB does not apply and follow normal diagnostic procedures as outlined in the appropriate WSM.
NOTE: IT IS NORMAL FOR THE PCM TO COMMAND 4TH GEAR AT SPEEDS AS LOW AS 19 MPH ( 30 KM/H) WITH LIGHT ACCELERATION WHEN THE THROTTLE POSITION IS LESS THEN 20%.

PART NUMBER PART NAME

1L3Z-7C155-AA Gasket - Valve Body Upper

Already had that TSB looked at the 1st trip to the dealer. That's exactly how it felt at first. So, I thought it would be some simple fix. Nothing but problems afterwards.
