FX4 vs. Lariat 4x4

It's time to replace my 02 Lariat with the new body style, and I'm looking at 04 and 05 models. I definitely want a 4x4, but I need some advice from you guys with more knowledge on these things than me. Would I better off with an FX4 with leather package or a Lariat with 4wd? Which would you go for?

HA, I have not been a regular here in 04 and up section since I traded my 04 to the Superduty. And the one day I drop in I see the FX4 or Lariat thread.

Oh god, what a can of worms and its only 11 in the afternoon. .

There is no big difference other than mostly cosmetic items. Pick what appeals to you.

LMAO! We really need to implement the search feature here. I can honestly recall 8 DETAILED threads that cover the FX3 and a 1/2 vs Lariat 4X4 discussion.

FX4. 2 interior colors (black and grey). Standard skid plates. Carbon Fiber looking trim inside. Body colored bumpers. Different looking guage package. 04-05 no available automatic climate control.

Lariet. 2 interior colors (tan and grey). Optional skid plates. Wood grain looking trim inside. Chrome bumpers. White faced guages. Standard auto climate control.

I picked the FX4 because I didnt like the wood trim. That was the only reason for me.

Anything Im missing?

Actually some minor CORRECTIONS...

* The Lariat interior colors are Tan and Black. There is no "grey".

* The Lariat has the Trip computer window in the dash.

* The Lariat ONLY has chrome bumpers when it is NOT two tone in paint scheme. It can be ordered with color matched bumpers too.

I should know, I have a Lariat.

My 05 white and tan two tone Lariat had tan and gray interior. Seems like every Lariat I have seen has the gray on dash and center console. There may be other interior options but of the dozen or so I have seen and driven, they all have gray on console and dash .

arsenalgunner - they are both great truck, drive em both and buy what you like. Since you asked what we would go for, FX4 scab - leather ( and the 3.73LS rear )

Also, the FX4's come standard with a limited slip rear diff, it's optional on lariats. FX4's get different shocks than the other F-150 4x4's
Leather seats are standard in lariats, so if you want cloth, then an FX4 is the way to go. The flares are smooth and painted on the lariats, the FX4 flares are plain textured plastic.

The interior for all F150s (except maybe the bare bones base models) ARE ALL multitone COLORS. The Window Sticker only says "Interior color: Tan" or "Interior color: black" for a Lariat. There is no Grey interior option for a Lariat. Sure, there is grey in some parts, duh. But your options on interior colors are JUST TWO, Tan or Black.

Take a look through a brochure.

Sorry for resurrecting a dead horse. I did an initial search on the topic, but received over a thousand hits - so I just got lazy. Thanks to those of you that replied.

I've actually noticed an interesting phenomenon in my 2 month used truck search - FX4s are relatively scarce, especially with the luxury package. Therefore, I'm seeing a lot of 4x4 Lariats that cost less than the the fx4. I've always been a bit more partial to the look of the FX4 (don't care for wood grain, color matched bumper/grille over the chrome), but I figured if I can save a couple thousand bucks & you guys had nothing bad to say about them - maybe I'd go Lariat.

Thanks again for the advice.

I absolutely love the EATC. I would NEVER want a vehicle without EATC ever again. Too hot, too cold, too stuffy, too hazy, too much condensation, yada yada. Never again with EATC, it's the best.
