Towing with edge?
Towing with edge?
hey people, i have a question does tow mode actually improve towing compared to running performance while towing? also towing says you can run 87, and 89, what would be better to run?

In terms of performance, no, the "towing" tune does not give you more performance than the "performance" tune. However, it is safer than the performance tune. When towing (or anytime the engine is under very heavy load), the main thing that you want to keep an eye on is EGT's (exhaust gas temperatures). The harder an engine works, the higher the EGT's get. So, to prevent your EGT's from getting too high when towing, the "tow" tune basically de-tunes your engine a little (compared to the "performance" tune).

I asked this question before I got my EDGE but I cant find where I asked it. The response I got was that "your transmission will die an early death" if you tow while using the performance tune. There is something about the transmission shifts, shift pressure, RPM, etc. etc that is changed when you "tune" the truck and the performance tune will ruin your transmission if you try to tow loads while using that tune. Everyone who responded said I would basically blow my transmission if you towed using your performance tune. Just do what the engineers designed the chip for and use the tow tune when towing to make sure you do not hurt the truck.

Level 2 is for TOW, level 3 is for GO!
Stay with that and you will be fine. I run straight level 2 all the time. Works well for me.

I have a question for you guys that pull a travel trailer. I do not have a power chip currently, but plan to get one in the future. I'm getting ready to pull a travel trailer (32') to the east coast and I'm concerned about having 22" rims with 305/40 22 tires. Any of you have aftermarket wheels pulling a trailer? Sorry to hijack this thread, I'm just having a hard time finding folks with similar set up. Thanks.
