A few questions for my reverse light and camera install
A few questions for my reverse light and camera install
Well I just got my reverse lights in today and the camera should be here in another day or two. I just have a few questions I wanted to see if anyone could help me with before I got started.
1) For the lights, I need to lenghten my wiring harness and run 4 wires to the front. I have some speaker wire that I believe was used for the subwoofer in our house a while back. It is plenty big in diameter and has 4 wires wrapped and insulated together. My question is can I use audio wire for the light hookup? Maybe this is a really dumb question, but I mean it is just insulated copper wire and there doesn't appear to be a difference.
2) What wire should I tap in to for the switched power running to the light switch? I want the lights to be able to be turned on anytime the key is on, not just when my other lights are on.
3) For my camera, I know I have seen members with switches on their dash to turn the reverse camera on the screen even when the truck is not in reverse. I am connecting it to a Pioneer Z1. Do I need to do this or does anyone know if there is a way to just turn it on through the unit?
Well I think that is all for now. It feels good to be adding some mods again. It sure has been awhile! Gears will be next! Hope you guys can help me out as usual!

you can use the speaker wire
you could tap into a cigarette lighter or the ignition wire going into your head unit as long as the lights dont draw too many amps, or you could tap into an unused fuse in the fuse box
i know my alpine w200 doesnt need a switch it has a wire that taps into the reverse lights to turn it on

Thanks man...I got the lights and camera mounted and most of the wiring finished tonight. Tomorrow I will wrap everything up, as well as finally connect the PAC adapter to use my steering wheel controls. One last question, I am going to end up having quite a few different accessories and modules tapped into the radios power. Is this OK?
