You have to decide what is "best" for YOU. What someone else considers to be the best may not be the best for your situation... But one thing I'd recommend is sticking with a Ford Extended Service Plan (ESP). It's backed by Ford, and is accepted at any Ford dealership in the country. They offer 4 different levels of warranties (PowertrainCare, BaseCare, ExtraCare, and PremiumCare). For me, I went with the PremiumCare ESP. It's the closest thing to an extension of the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty. The best price I found was at www.fordwarrantys.com... Someone on this site did mention that you cannot legally purchase Ford ESP's on the internet. That scarred me a little (since I'd already purchased it), so I called Ford directly and inquired about it. They said the way I purchased it was all legit. Plus I've already used it!

Also, alot of people will chime in saying that extended warranties are a waste of money. On average, that may be true from a purely financial standpoint. But never underestimate the value of peace of mind. For me, the $1100 was worth the peace of mind that I'll have for the next several years.

Though not common knowledge, just about every vehicle manufacturer, in this day-n-age, will give you back a certain [rather large] percentage of what you payed for the extended warranty IF you never make a claim during the warranty's life. Not many people know this but you should ALWAYS use this as a negotiating tool. I've been doing it for years and have never been turned away. They will rarely [next to never] drop the extended warranty's price [profit margin], but will make this offer to you... if they don't then speak up!

I've used it once with GM, once with Toyota and my wife one time with Mercedes.

All bets are off once a claim is made.

Good luck

At www.fordwarrantys.com, I signed up for their email updates. They immediately send you a coupon for something like $150 off their advertised prices. Then about a week later, then send you a coupon for $250 off... That's how I got down to $1100... I don't know if they sell to Canada or not.

Just a comment, in my dealings in the past the dealers markup for the extended warrantee is large. And the price can be negotiable, though most dealers frown on it. It is just an insurance policy after all. You are paying a premium for a policy based on industry average cost for repairs. That is why many insurance companies also have their own version of an extended warrantee.

I am currently considering purchasing a Ford premium care esp for my 04. Shop the web is the best advice I can give. I tried to get the dealer I purchased the truck from to match or get close and they would not.

On my wifes car the dealer beat the best internet price by $100. Check out the prices and see what your local dealer will do; they all pay the same for the warranty so it all depends on who is the least greedy.

The thing I hate about extended warranties is the terms... 5/100k. They says it's 5 years, but it's from the ORIGINAL purchase date, so, if I got a 5/100k policy, it only covers me until 2010. What crap... I'd take 5 years from warranty sale date or 100k miles.

I bought a 5yr/75000 mile Premium Care ESP for my 2005 f150 and I got it with the $50 deductible and road hazard tire warranty and it cost me $900. I got a price from fordwarrantys.com and the dealer wanted $1300 but they matched the internet price. I know from what I could see in the dealers book they still made about $200 on the plan. I believe the tire coverage was $50 and it covered any tire you have on the vehicle even aftermarket tires. My brother has the same plan and he picked up a nail in the sidewall of one of his 20 inch aftermarket tires and they replaced it.

I picked up the PremiumCare ESP w/ 5yr/75,000 when I got my truck. It cost me $2k, but I think it was well worth it. That was the best price I could get between 3 dealers.

With the prices of vehicle repairs nowadays, I'd rather pay the $ upfront and never use it, than not have the warranty and shell out thousands to repair my truck.

A bit too late now, but you could have gotten that exact plan for A LOT less money... That's the exact one I got for $1100...

Is it too late? If you just purchased it recently, you may be able to get a refund, and purchase elsewhere for less. Just a thought...

that was back in October and I worked the price into the financing. So they would refund the $ into the loan and I'd have to fork out $1100 out of pocket. Assuming I could get that price anyways.

I took about a week between 3 dealers before I finally bought. That 2K was the absolute best I could get. On the other hand, I got a 2006 SuperCrew FX4 Premium for <$32k...I think they weren't too happy about the price and decided to stick it to me with the warranty. The normal price for a truck like mine is about $40k out here.

Any last comments on the www.fordwarrantys.com ?? I think I'm going to do that... I figure the ExtraCare warranty should be sufficient for my FX4.
