At first, I was a little skeptical of buying mine (not skeptical of buying from fordwarrantys.com, but just skeptical of buying an extended warranty period)... Anyway, just in the past few months, the extended warranty has compensated me about $300 just in rental cars, while my truck has been in the shop. So at least that makes me feel better about buying it.

Yeah, I've always been in that same boat... it's a gamble. BUT, on my wife's '00 Intrepid, we did use hers when her A/C took a dump. So, we'll see.

Thumbs up

I bought extended warranty from fordwarrantys.com. I got the Extracare 6/100. Turns out i was not driving as much as I though I would, and before my warranty ran out, I traded up to 6/75 premium care. They refunded the original purchase price, and gave me the original $250 off.

The guys at fordwarranty's are top notch. I have used the warranty already.. I ran out of my 3 years before my 36000, and with premiumcare ( and $0 deductable), there were no questions from the dealer... things just got fixed.

I say... thumbs up for piece of mind.

With the prices of vehicle repairs nowadays, I'd rather pay the $ upfront and never use it, than not have the warranty and shell out thousands to repair my truck.
Well put. I went with the 5yr deal also because I was upside down when I bought it and I know I am going to keep it until its paid off (hopefully longer). I know I will hit the 5yr mark before the milage cap. Almost 2yrs and a little over 7K miles right now so I dont see reaching the 75K by the time I get to 5yrs. Piece of mind thought

Having just purchased a 2001 f150 supercrew 4X4 with 93K+ miles, with a couple of minor issues, I was thinking of getting a used car extended warranty.

Never having purchased one for a used car, I was wondering if anyone had any input about which one was best?

I talked to a couple on-line places already to get quotes and hung up on one that was trying to use strong-arm tactics.

I tried the on-line ford site but it said the warranty, I selected was not available for my truck and did not list any onther plans.

Any inpu you might have is greatly appreciated.

Yup. Ford doesn't offer an ESP for used (over 3/36,000) AFAIK.

This summer the warranty on my 2004 runs out. I've been kicking around the idea of an extended warranty as well. Problem is (which since gas prices are so high really isn't a problem) I have a company car and only drive my truck on the weekends During the week my truck is parked in the garage all day long. I just turned 9600 miles on it and it's not even three years old yet! I'm going to have to do some research on what warranty would be best for me since I'll hit the expiration with years not mileage first.

Someone mentioned here that it would cover aftermarket items as well. I have recently gone back to the dealer where I bought my truck from to talk to them about my Eagle Alloy wheels. The chrome on them are chipping. The person I spoke to said usually aftermarket items are covered for one year. When I bought my truck, it was stock, and I had the dealer install the lift, wheels, tires, spray in bedliner, and nerf bars. When I bought my truck I specifically asked them if aftermarket items, or any problems stemming from aftermarket items (such as a u-joint going out due to the 6" Fabtech lift), were covered under the 3/36000 Ford warranty. They said yes, everything is covered since they put the items on and that is how I bought my truck. So last weekend (Saturday) I told this to the guy a the dealership. He had to call another person about this. I was told since it's the weekend, someone would call me on Monday. That didn't happen and of course I called them back. The person I spoke to is now on vacation until next week. I left him a voice mail. So I'll see what happens, but it's a concern with these extended warranties covering aftermarket items since thay told me one thing when I bought my truck and now are "not sure" and will "have to call me next week". If they say no, I will push them on it and see what happens. The guy I spoke to did say that with only 9600 miles, my wheels should not be chipping the chrome. Of course I agreed! So again, I'll see what happens. Just some food for thought for those of you looking at the extended warrany.

its a gamble

when you buy a extended warranty you are gambling that your truck will be in need of a covered repair during that time frame. If your truck takes a dump during that time frame then you win the bet because you are covered.

If your truck goes the long haul with out one then your money was ill spent.

With that being said, Ford is gambling that your truck will make it for the long haul all the while hoping you will opt for peace of mind with the ESP. If they are right then that money is 100% profit or free money.

So the question you have to ask yourself is how has your truck performed up to this point and how much is your peace of mind worth.

When I got my truck for Christmas, my wife front loaded my truck with an extended warranty. I'm covered up to 75,000 miles or 7 years.

My rule of thumb is your truck should be under warranty for at least as long s your are making payments. Extended warranty's are very profitable for the seller and a gamble for the buyer. on the front end If your truck needs an extended warranty you should be looking for another truck. If your truck doesn't need one why buy one. the problem is you never know until something happens. So the bottom line is how much is your peace of mind worth. if its worth the price of an ESP then your decision is already been made.

All true.

The last new car I purchased, I bought the extended wanrranty and it was worth the money.

My biggest concern now is finding a reputable company. I've googled but was not satisfied with the results as the sites I looked at were promoting their own warranties. Or, the site was designed/written to appear to be an unbiased review of warranties but did not really show any kind of comparisons on features prices and customer satisfaction.

I'd just like to hear form people who have bought extended warranties for used cars and what their opiion of the company they bough from is.

Thanks.
