The Project Begins - LEDs

Well I just got my truck back from the body shop today after two weeks, and about half that time I had this bag of Leds sittin on my desk. As soon as I got my truck back I decided that I couldn't wait any longer so i went out and started putting the Leds in.I started with my drivers side switches which took 3 hours so this is definatly going to be a long project.

Ok here is what I did. I opened up the switches and took the boards out that had the green Leds on them and set them aside because they would no longer be needed. In side there are prongs that stick up that powered the stock leds and that is where I got my power from. Once I figured out which was positive and which was negative I took the leds and resistors and wired up the circuits that I needed. Once everything was soldered and situated i put everthing back together to see how it looked. Here are the results.

They still need a little work but I think they turned out pretty good. Oh and sorry for the crappy camera phone pics. I will be back at it tomorrow and will hopefully finish up the rest.

Nice job... keep us posted on how the rest of them go.

You've got lots of work ahead though...

I like the blue, we just need some better pics.

Tell me about. I'll go get some more pics right now with my digi cam.

Oh and does anybody have one of the switch cases lying around? I kinda broke the clip that holds the window lock switch in, I'll have to see if i can find one at the dealer.

Alright here is another pic of the lights. One of the strings is grounding out too soon and that is why one of the lights is out, but I will be able to fix that real easy tomorrow when I open it back up.

Man that looks awesome!!! I wish these trucks had that color for all of the lights. I'm not too big on the funky green color. Keep us up to date on how it goes.

Yes the gauges can be done. You have to romove the green backing that is on the gauge face. When i take that apart again ill get pics of that. Here is what my gauges currently look like.

That was done with the little covers that go over the lights but I will be putting leds in there to give a more blue color.

Now I have all of the switches done and will get pics of them lit up tonight. The driverside still needs a little work but I will mess with that tomorrow.

To remove the backing I took the cluster apart and just used a razor blade to scrape the stuff off. I think you can use nail polish remover as well. Just be careful if you want to change the color of the gear selector it is very thin and will get eaten away easily.
