I would have finished them tonigth but I am going to have to get some PLCC 2 SMT leds to finish it. I put 3mm leds every where I could in there but there are a few places where they won't fit. So here are the pics of that.

Sorry for the crappy camera phone pics. I will get better ones tomorrow night.

Alright I know you probably haven't torn your instrument panel apart but how were you planning on changing the color of the gauges. I have tried an led strip but that didnt light up the numbers well enough. I also tried putting in single leds by drilling into the plastic behind the gauge face and that didn't work either. So now I am kinda stuck. I have almost eveything changed to blue except the cluster which I though would be the easiest.

My next idea is to get some brighter leds to put behind the gauge face beacuse the ones that I have are the wide angle and are only rated at like 350mcd so I think that might be my problem.

Zach, someone @ FTW did their gauge cluster. IIRC there was green film behind the gauges he had to remove and replace.

Ya I already got the green film off there so that any light color will shine through and now I am just trying to figure out how I'm gonna light up the cluster. Right now I have kinda yellowish light from the incandescent bulbs.

Update on cluster lights

Well my assumtion was right and the blue leds that I was planing on using in the cluster did not put out enough light to light up the stuff. So now I have decided to go with white lights behind the cluster because that is what I have lying around that will be bright enough.

I kinda had a major accicdent though. When I was disassembling the cluster the LCD screen fell out and landed on my garage floor with pieces of glass flying. So now the top line of each row is out, so now a 7 looks like a 1. Now I am trying to figure out what I am going to do to fix this. Two options.
1. Get a new lariat cluster and do an entire swap and do the led retro in that cluster.
2. Find an XL or XLT cluster for cheap and then just take the good screen out and put it in my cluster.

I know that option two will be way cheaper but I have always wanted a Lariat cluster so now I am just trying to decide what to do. So does any one have an extra XL or XLT cluster lying around that they will be willing to part with.

So did you finish? Any pics? How did you fix your LCD window. The Lariat LCD screen is different than all the other models. Also, LCD screens are pretty universal, you can pick one up the same size and just solder it in, this is a good way to change the color on the readout as well.

I finished all leds in the switches and stuff but never did the cluster. I ended up getting an FX4 cluster off ebay for like 150 and just threw that in there and left it at that. I was planning on changing the lights in that eventually but I don't think I'm going to do that any more. I just picked up an 07 F350 CC long bed on sunday so I'm not gonna be modding anything for a while. And since the 150 will now be my work truck I'm not really interested in doing too much more to it.
