I - along with the vast majority of other dealer techs - get paid commission per job, or what's better known as flat rate.

I agree. I want to satisfy the customer. Customers who are happy and taken care of while their vehicles are under warranty ideally bring them back after they've run out of warranty for maintenance and repairs, providing business to the parts and service departments. They also may decide to buy another vehicle later, providing business to the sales department. Win/win.

The uptightness is because noone really has the kind of money they are asking to fix these problems.
Okay, maybe I provided the wrong image with my first couple of posts in this thread.

Without knowing any better, it'd be wrong of me to say over a computer on the 'net that I'd shrug off bamorris2's problems. His truck is still under warranty, and if he has legitimate complaints (which I'm sure he does), they need to be fixed. Period. Same goes with any customer.

But at the dealer level, getting jerked around by low life customers who want something for nothing tends to influence attitudes to where legit customers can get the cold shoulder. I ain't saying that this is right, but I am saying that I understand when I read threads on here from members who got snubbed by their dealers.

Good post Quintin! You're still our favorite tech on f150online!

Quintin, I feel for you guys.

We have people all the time try to tell us how to sell their house; I work for a real estate company, but what irks me if they know so much and its so easy, why are they having us do it?

Exactly. Professionals are professionals for a reason...they do a specific task, and they do it well.

I'm not above taking suggestions or recommendations from everyone, but I also do what I do ten hours a day, five or six days a week. I train about a quarter of the year if not more, and do a lot of learning from the school of hard knocks; I'd like to think that I know what I'm doing.

it is my opinion that if i buy a vehicle with a sticker price of over $40,000 it should be quality from day one and nothing less. to have as many tsb's as this truck does is out of control. to have a service department that treats you like a second rate citizen for coming in with legitimate complaints is unaccetable. having a forum like this to vent....well that is outstanding

bamorris2,

I might be way off base, but thought I would throw this out concerning the #4 problem you listed about the humming. My truck did the same thing....turned out to be the plastic intake tube where it contacts the fender. The tube was vibrating against the fender. I put some "gasket" type foam where the tube meets the fender and I have not heard the hum since. Just thought it might be worth a shot.

Quintin,

I don't disagree with you, but not all "professionals" are competent....and that goes for all professions. I have actually had my truck at the dealer in the past and they could not figure out the problem. I learned about the problem here on the forum and took it back to them and told them what I thought was wrong and where I had gotten the info from......the guy rolled his eyes and muttered something......turned out that I (this forum) was right.....I won't talk to that guy when he as at the desk anymore.

Do you know what they call the person who finished last in their class at medical school?...........................Doctor

But did it only do it when the truck was cold-soaked? When I first got the truck (2 years ago), I had a rattle from the air intake, but I fixed it back then and haven't heard the same rattle since... But you get a hum/moan from yours? And only before it's warmed up?

So true!

May not be the same problem your having now, but when mine made the noise (high frequency vibration...rattle,hum?) .... it only did it when I first started it up in the morning....as soon as I pushed on the brake and put it in gear.....the noise would be there. The noise would go away as soon after I got rolling. It would not do it when it was warm. May be worth a try....its easy enough to look at?

Hmmm, sounds the same as my problem... Maybe I'll re-visit the air intake tube. Do you happen have have a pic or link for the type of foam you used?

I still don't understand how/why the noise would go away after it gets warmed up. I could understand if it was, say, an exhaust leak. It would go away when warm because the metal would heat up and expand... But plastic?? Puzzling.
