Mystery Wire

While I had my truck apart to fix the radio issues... which is still unresolved. I saw a wire connected to the coin holder where the 4x4 selector switch would be for a 4x4er.

Any ideas? My truck is a 2007 4.2l and manual transmission... and 2wd of course.

Probably the harness for the 4x4 switch if it were to have 4x4. I think the under dash harnesses are the same for each truck.

Question

When I had my dash off to replace the radio I saw a wire connected to a place right next to the cig lighter. Any clues to what this may be?

That's for the electric coin warmer, it keeps your change nice and toasty on those cold mornings.

What they said, 4X4 switch wire.

I pulled my coin warmer out and replaced it with a transmission temp guage. I just taped off the existing 4X4 wire to avoid shorting. In place of the toasty coin warmer I inserted a tranny temp guage that works perfect.

Do you have fog lights? If not could possibly be for those? I have a 2WD also and had my dash apart a couple days ago and noticed the same thing. I just thought it must be for factory fog lights since I don't have any.

Did you read the rest of this thread before you posted? Check the post right above yours. It the harness for the ESOF (electronic shift on the fly) for the 4x4 models.

So your saying that I'm wrong, I don't know what I'm talking about? I have both the fogs and ESOF on my truck I know EXACTLY where those wires go.

The coin holder/ ESOF switch position is on the other side of the steering wheel no where near the fog light switch. I was saying why would he think that it was for the fogs since it is no where near the fog switch. So I was saying he was wrong not you.
