cam upgrades!?

i like to cruise around on the net looking for possible upgrades to the ol' f150. most of the time i find things that i do not know a whole lot about...but none the less it passes the time. the site www.rpmoutlet.com has a lot of nifty stuff for our f150's. today i just noticed that they have added several new things to there list of "dyno tested" products. they have three different companys that are selling differnet stage cams as well as springs. sounds like a decent amount of gain for the cost. i dont know a whole lot about cam upgrades so im looking for some feedback from you all on this.

I love the nice THUMP sound of a cam on a muscle car, heck I would pay to just get that sound! Anyone want to be a ginnea pig?

You can also use the new mustang cams. You'll need to get a new tune when you do the cam install.

One of our members has done some extensive work dyno'ing his 5.4 L 3v and concluded that power was limited by the stock cams...this is contrary to popular belief that cams don't add much more than 10 hp to these trucks without headwork...however it is my belief with other performance mods such as an intake, exhaust, headers, and a custom tune, you will be able to get much more hp...originally, I was thinking about getting a supercharger, but now I'm considering a set of dynatech LT headers and COMP stage 1 cams with HD springs...should put me over 300 hp along with my other mods...

You'll need a tune anyways if you get a new cam.

There are rumors that with a full bolt on cammed 5.4, results of 400rwhp has been attained.

I'd be the guinea pig if the stage 4 cams weren't EXTREMELY rough at idle. I wonder how rough we're talking here.

Cams can add a bunch more power, but where and at what cost? Every cam swap I have ever seen on a mod motor, it pushed the power band up further in the RPM range. Having a lot of high RPM horsepower is not very good in a heavy truck. Of course you can over come this with some gears.

I only consider the Stage 4's but I'd like to see how rough were talkin. If it's anything like the video in hllon4whls's sig, I'll be ok like it is. Believe it or not my truck is relatively quiet for the setup on the highway.

Stage I adds across the power band, particularly at low and mid range...With Stage II, III, and IV you lose low end and gain the most at mid and top end...

Did you lose any low end power?
