Black - Blessing or Curse??

As the owner of a black F150 for 3 years, I am so frustrated with the constant reminder of all the paint imperfections - swirls, scratches, etc. It's almost as if your afraid to drive it, because if anything hits it, it will show.

When I ordered my truck I was also considering Arizona Beige... Some days I really wish I would have went with that.

Any thoughts on why black is better or worse..? And how many of you would have chosen similarly?

I'd say to stay away from black vehicles unless you have the time, talen, and patience to properly take care of it. Nothing worse than seeing a black car/truck with swirls all over the place. Drives me nuts! OTOH, if you do have what it takes, then a well-taken care of black truck is a thing of beauty!

Nothing looks better than a clean, black, Ford pickup.

I agree when black is clean there is nothing better. There are some good websites that will help you with the swirl remover, glaze, etc. I just sold a black kb supercharged mustang vert so I feel your pain.

I have had some black vehicles (Lightning, Bronco, Ranger, BMW) and when there clean and waxed up it looks great and I loved them especially under the street lights at night. But it does not take much to make them look dirty and yes if you dont maintain the paint it can look like doo doo.
This time around I went silver since I never had a silver vehicle and Im digging it. I really like a nice looking black ride but I dont think I will be going that route again any time soon. Silver is my color of choice now

I have to agree with Airborneracer. Silver is so easy to maintain and doesn't show it when you don't. I used to have a black mustang and was a fanatic about keeping it detailed, drying off any form of moisture (including dew) to eliminate spotting and just got tired of it. Now after owning a silver F150 for the past 3+years, I will stick with either silver or gray. I haven't detailed this truck for months and it still looks great.

Well, I had a black 01 dakota, a black 02 Ranger, a yellow 03 Jeep, a silver 05 Ranger, and now my dark blue (might as well be black) 07 f150...

My silver Ranger never showed dirt. I could go 3 months without washing it and everyone would ask me how I kept my truck so clean.

On my new truck, 2 days after I wash it, it looks like I haven't washed it in weeks...

At the same time, when I would wash my silver Ranger, I never really got that just-washed satisfaction...whereas with all my black (or really dark) vehicles, you get that satisfaction that it's really clean right after you washed it.

I'd say go for black...sure it's harder to take care of, but I'd say it's worth it in the end. Oh, and there were 2 fx4 super cab's at the dealership when I bought mine...one dark blue and one silver...I picked the dark one.

black- its a love hate relationship here- when its clean, its the sexiest truck in town, other than that it looks like crap- BUT if its clean, and you get a fresh coat of splashed mud on it, it looks damn good too! eh, pollen, wont see that for another 3 months when it turns 'spring'

When it's clean black s gorgeous, just clean and classy...

Unfortunately, I live in the middle of the dessert and if you've ever heard the expression "West Texas rainstorm" you know why I bought a truck that was the same color as the dirt .

As it is I go through a bottle of armor-all every couple weeks keeping the black plastic black

I agree with the love/hate relationship with black paint.
