I get 9 or 10 in town if I'm on it, which I increasingly am due to the XCAL and a Magnaflow. If I stay off of it, I will average over a tank about 12 in town. On a long trip, it'll increase to about 15 or 16, depending on altitude gain. I frequently hit the mountains and can see altitude differences of sea level to 8000 or 9000 ( if I go to Yosemite via Tioga Pass) so mileage does vary. I would replace the fuel filter (search threads for tools, technique, etc.) as well as the air filter and clean the MAF sensor. None of these are truly expensive or that difficult so you might see some improvement. You know, it's not unheard of that these trucks attempt to engage 4x4 by themselves. It's something else to check. I would think if you're in 4 hi once in a while, your mileage will be affected.
I'm heavier than you with an '04 Lariat Screw 4X4 with tonneau cover.....
Good luck.

Done the dealer thing and of course their $10k machine that does fuel economy is much more accurate than my OLD way of filling the tank at the same pump and dividing that into total miles driven on that tank.

According to that MACHINE I get 19-21 MPG!!! Whew-hew!!! Bullshot!!!

To each his own. I have given up and just started enjoying my truck. I can afford to pay $35k for my truck and I can afford gas $.

I love my rig!!!!

Well guys I have been doing some testing myself on gas mileage and in the last 3 tanks I am average around 330 to 340 miles and about 21 gallons per fill up.

So that comes to 16.1 mpg.

Is this good?

I mostly drive around in the city.

Sounds good for a 2wd truck i'd say I rarely get over 300 miles on a tank of gas.

Id give up a few MPG for some more real HP. I'm with you on enjoying the truck. I bought it to enjoy. It has become my preferred road trip vehicle. I have a company vehicle for the daily driving.

Its a great looking, riding and IMO handling truck. So far mine has done nearly everything trouble free.

I'm glad that my truck still gets 13 mpg rolling on 37s!!

Anyways, if you're getting that bad of gas mileage. I'd say you need to get your PCM reflashed.

I couldn't get that if I were driving down hill with the wind at my back. Thanks to my Edge Evo it has gotten much better.

All of you with the bad mileage should look into a PCM reflash from your dealer. There are alot of threads about getting this done, just use your search button. I have an '04 Super Crew along with 33" tires and I still get 400 Miles to a tank and I drive mostly 40 to 50 mph around town and in stop and go traffic.

I have had mine flashed a couple of times and there was no improvement in my mileage, ford tested my truck to see where I would be getting the optimal mpg's and they said that my truck gets its best mpg's at 38-57 mph. So your truck seems to be in good running order, I drive mostly on an air force base and the speed limits are 20 & 30 mph, that is what mainly kills my mpg. When I first got the truck I took a 500 mile trip and my truck was averaging 12-13 mpg
So far w/ my Edge Evo I have noticed a little bit of improvement but I just filled up the tank, so we will see for sure if it has improved.

Just checked mine today, all highway driving. And got 11.5 mpg, 05 scab 4x4 with 33's. Told my dealer about the gas mileage a few months back when I was actually getting about 13 mpg's, he told me also to bring it in and have in reflashed. What exactly do they do when they reflash it? And why isn't it programmed that way to begin with?

From what my dealer was telling me is that when they re-flash your cpu it basicly resets the cpu to like the day you first got it. Kinda like how you train the cpu to react to your driving style. (basically the truck relearns your driving habits) not for sure if that is correct but that is what they told me.

Yeah, I really don't understand why there is such a variation in gas mileage on these pickups. I have a buddy that also has an 04 screw 4x4 with 33's, and he get's 17 highway with his. Another buddy had an 04 screw, he also got 17 highway with it.
