Thinking about adding a tach to my 05 STX 4.6L since its gonna be to much trouble to get a new cluster and have it programmed. What brand tachs do you recommend? How hard would the install be? Is the wires already there, or am I gonna have to splice into something? Thanks for the help.

Buy an Edge Evolution.
You get a tach in the display and the Level 2 tune will make it feel like a new truck.
I wanted a tach in my 05 STX but just bought an Edge Evolution to gain the perfomance, tach, and all the other neat features.

 

They actually have a tach on the STX edition. I didn't know this until about 2 weeks ago. The button on your gauge display to zero out your trip miles...hold it down while you start your truck and you can scan through a bunch of different viewing options. One of those is the tach display. I know its kinda hard to see since its small but if you didnt want to fork out the money, thats the easiest way to view your RPMs. I bought an EDGE Evolution as well. Highly recommended for performance gains as well as having a large face tach.

 

Thats not very practical..

Just buy an XLT cluster..

 

Or just buy a tach

I completely agree with you. If they have the capability of reading a tach and hid one in that part of the instrument panel, why didn't they just put a real tach in it?? I guess it's useful for those who don't want to spend the money for one though

 

you could also get a scangauge II. I got mine a few months ago and am pleased with it.
