Tranny Problems at 12K miles

I have a 2006 F-150 CC Lariat 4X4 5.4L with 11,500 miles on it. During the 1-2 shift the transmission feels like it is slipping and sometimes you can hear some grinding noises. It seems to happen more under light throttle when driving in traffic. I can make it happen when I force the transmission to do the 1-2 shift at around 2000 rpm. Also, when making a sharp 90 degree turn there is a shutter in the driveline during the 1-2 shift. When you accelerate at 50% or greater throttle it seems to shift just fine. It has been getting worse here lately and I plan on taking it to the dealer on Monday.

I work out of town Mon-Thurs and would have to leave the truck there most of the week. Will the dealer cover the cost of the rental car or loan me one since this is a warrantee service? I purchased the 100K warrantee for my truck, but I don’t want to have transmission issues every 12K miles.

I've found a couple of TSBs concerning similar issues. They are TSB 06-22-7 and 06-19-16.

I like everything about my truck, except for the transmission. Ford really needs to spend more time developing the powertrain of our trucks. I test drove a Nissan Titan, and absolutely loved the engine and transmission in it.

Most of us can't speak on behalf of your dealer so the best bet would be to call them and explain your situation. I'd be willing to bet that they will cover the cost of a rental while yours is getting fixed. If not, find another dealer.

Not totally sure I'm right on this. But the dealer should provide a rental for you if the warranty repair has them keeping the truck overnight. Your leaving your truck for a few days, doesn't entitle you to this. Sorry.

Your truck might be trying to engage 4wd. I've seen the same symptoms on here before. That would help explain a shudder when turning.....
