can anyone identify this sensor?

It is located on the center support, in front of the radiator on my 06 SCAB. I need to relocate it slightly to accommodate a custom bracket I'm making for grille lights (fire dept). Just want to make sure by moving it (actually flipping it 180 degrees) I'm not screwing anything up.

Thanks...

I could be wrong, but I think that it is the outdoor temp sensor.

That looks A LOT different than my temperature sensor (for the outside temp that shows up on the dash)...but that's the exact location.

Oh...and mine is flipped 180 degrees from the direction yours faces...so go for it.

There is another sensor above this one, not in the pic, that I think is the temp sensor. This picture is after I flipped it 180 degrees, so it is upside-down of it's original position.

I would'nt flip an airbag sensor, it probably won't function correctly after being flipped.

That is the impact sensor. Ford states that mounting orientation and torque value is critical. If you've moved it or reoriented it in any way, put it back. I wouldn't mess around with that sensor under any circumstances.

That's the primary crash sensor, and don't flip it around upside down, inside out, or in any other direction than how it was mounted from the factory.

Get that thing BACK like it was! At work, if you happen to flip the main SRS control module upside down for any reason while you got the key on, it will blow the curtain airbags cause of a rollover sensor that is in that thing. That is some serious stuff there.

Thanks everyone, I'll be putting it back come daylight tomorrow. When comparing it to a friend's 05 scab, his didn't have that sensor behind the grill like mine, so I didn't assume it was important as it apparently is. Thanks for the info!

back to normal

The sensor has been righted - thanks to everyone again for the info. I would have hated to have had a wreck and the system malfunction because I moved the sensor.

That's also known as the WhackAMole sensor:

you mess with it, and you deserve the Whack-A-Mole treatment you gonna get from the airbag smacking you in da face!
