What is the quality of the kits being sold currently ? Is there a need to rebuild the controllers ? replace fuse blocks ? and add switches ?

I am not real familiar with the Troyer E-Fans, but I did install a very similar set up with a Be Cool Rad in my Formula. One of the fan motors was bad and caused so much draw that it kept blowing the fuse for it...thats what sounds like is happening with yours (this would also explain the melted wires and such.) The good thing with mine is that the fans were able to operate independently from each other. Are the Troyers that way or do they operate off the same fuse and relay? If so I would try wiring them up separately to see if it is just one of the fans thats bad. Again I am not familiar with the exact set up of the controller (and if you want to post specific wiring details I would be able to be more specific) but most likely the fans have a relay that is triggered by a wire from the controller when the temp gets to a certain level....if both fans are ran off of one relay all you will need to do is add an extra relay and use the same trigger wire for both. With that said I would do as suggested above and add a manual switch...its very simple. Just add a switched hot wire in place of the trigger wire. Then re-wire your fans with new heavy duty wires and relays and your problem should be solved. This is how I have mine wired, but soon (when the new motor goes in) I am going to hook it up where I can both turn them on manually and where they will come on automatically if the engine starts getting hot (in case of a...human error!) This will be pretty simple to do as well. In either case I would say this is a safer and more reliable solution than to keep "******" with what you have now because obviously somethings not right.

*EDIT*
Also what were you doing when it overheated? Where you in a situation where airflow was restricted (in traffic, offroad or such?) If not you should be able to keep the truck cool without the fans if the rest of the cooling system is operating correctly. Just out of curiosity do you regularly clean out your radiator after mud bogging? I have to clean the rad in my Polairs Sportsman 700 everytime I go in mud or it will start overheating....the mud gets inside the fins and stops it up and prevents air from flowing through it. If this is happening it could be causing your fans to run all the time and in turn causing them to overheat and blow the fuses and such. Just a thought!

Well I'm glad not everyone has defective controllers, blown fuses, etc. As for several of us, Rafa26, Special, we all have problems with our controllers and several of us with the fuse problem.

There has since been a rubber grommet put in place thanks for pointing that out brian

i don't think the edge caused it, i think the fans are just a piece of ****.... id return to the stock fan setup and run the edge... never had a issue of overheating like that

He probably was. That is COMPLETELY useless info.

Like you did on yours?! Why haven't we done this mod yet?! We need to finish my fuse box too! Oh yeah I need a wash too after these rains...I got lost driving.

Ummm - fans are never gonna cause a lean condition -ever.

Look at the timeline - J's had the fans for a while - the condition appeared 2 weeks after installing the Edge. You do the math ...

Hey J - my trash bin's "open for bidness"

Cheers

So what has Troyer said about the problems that some of you are having with the E-Fan kit? I would think that they would be willing to work with you on it as they are pretty good about what they sell.

lol. Well Joe, those pictures from pismo are the ones from Matt's camera! I didn't even see it until my ex showed me the other day.

About the problems with the controllers, he claims owner abuse.

My Troyer kit had the same issues back in the day.

He sent me some upgraded relays, and I also installed my own large-style fuses. This cured it.

But if I could do it over again, I'd get Mad's fan controller.
No one reports any problems with them and it offers more control over what your fans are doing.

E-fans are great. The right ones will provide more-than adequate cooling. And IMHO superior control over the fan, so you get less parasitic losses and ice-cold A/C even when the truck isn't moving, which wasn't the case with my factory fan.

To the naysayers:
I gurantee you that my supercharger adds more heat than any tuner. Consider that I tow 7,000 lbs thru 115+ degree summertime desert heat, with a supercharger, A/C blasting, and I have never, ever overheated. I don't think that it gets much tougher on a cooling system than this.

Umm, I reported a problem. I will say again that the DCcontroller or SPAL is the best. I leave my DCController at 10% output all the time to help the ac out. It will then ramp up if the temp goes up...

Josiah, Do you thing that all of that water "might" have caused some of your problems.

I turned the fans off before hitting any sort of mud and/or water. So it's doubtful, not to mention both controllers went out only a week or two after installation iirc. But the water did short out one of my fans after the first incident I forgot to pull the fuses...be sure to do that it only takes one time.
