PM truck test...
Popular mechanics did the half ton truck test in the March 2007 issue... Order of there ratings...
1. titan
2. tundra
3. siverado
4. F-150
5. dodge
They rated the ford low because of lack of power. I am SOOOO friggen sick of this complaining about power. Lets put this in perspective. Take the same test. Add a ford F-450 diesel. I bet the diesel will be slower than all of them. But it will tow twice as much as any of them. Moral of the story? 0-60 is friggen meaningless!! If I wanted to go fast I would have bought a shelby mustang. It slays me also they ranked the datsun first. Obviously the buying public doesn't agree with them as there sales are so miserable.

Agreed!
They just gave the Chevy 1st since they feel sorry for GM and it's a new truck for them. Personally, I wouldn't want one, my 2005 F-150 is the best vehicle I've ever owned.
Just look how much stronger the Ford frame is, including the tow hooks. Someone on here yanked a Chevy out of the mud or snow, and the freaking Chevy tow hook ripped off the truck! No, I'd rather be behind the wheel of my big blue oval.

Ok here's my opinion... since I read the same thing when I was sitting in my local Barnes and Noble drinking a cup of Starbucks.
My opinions:
1. 0-60 mph in a truck is not what a truck is for (exception: sport trucks, like the Lightning.)
2. Yes, Ford's frame is 200X stronger than all of those up there. I've got proof too. A friend crashed his 2006 Ram 1500 head on into a simple speed sign at about 30 mph. Remember, a single post speed sign. Total weight of it out of the ground, 40 lbs. In the ground resistance at about 2 ft depth, about 300lbs. Not much we are talking here. I've bent a speed sign pole with my own bare hands and my body weight. Well, he hit it, and it totalled his brand new 1500.
3. The Titan might be a strong puller, but as a rammer... nope. A professor at my college has a Titan fully loaded. Decided one day he wanted to see what it could do. Tried climbing a snowbank at the college... bent the whole front end in, radiator, and tore up a small radiator fan. Nice to see a Titan is a fake warrior to a simple snow bank. Mind you, he wasn't doing anything much out of the ordinary, no initial speed, he just tried climbing.
4. That Silverado isn't as silver as it seems. Watching YouTube videos of people pulling Silverados out using those front tow hooks and then they snap and go through an F150 windshield is no funny thing. That is dangerous! I believe the bowtie should recall all of their vehicles.
5. The F150, is a great truck. As far as longetivity, pulling power, capacity, and safety, it is the best bet! Why do you think 90% of utility companies, telecom industries, and many more rely on the Ford F-Series?! I don't see my local power company going for Nissan Titans!
Just ignore it. Buy what will last. A Ford F-Series.

Knowing also that no other light duty pickup can match the durability of my Ford helps too.

Broke both of his tow hooks while they were BOTH chained together equalizing the weight. Luckily when they both busted they didn't go through my back window or hit my truck. Reason being I towed him was because it was a friend and GM's nice and crappy 4.3l V6 died on him for the 40th million time with only 40k on the clock.

I would just LOVE to see what GM's new extended powertrain warranty ends up costing them in claims over the 5 year/100,000 mile term.
Yeah
it's like Hyundai.. know why they have a 100K mile warranty? They HAVE to! they can't go that long!!

haha, you've all got an excellent point made. All he ever had was problems with it. I never had a problem with my F150. Then again, I had my fair share of problems with my '03 Escape. Left me stranded only 4 times by 60k. But that's not a truck; it's a Ford car. So far with 3k on my F150 no problems, no concerns, and nothing but fun.

It's funny that you all mention Hyundai... that new Sonata has so many issues related with it. When you mentioned this, I went out a popular Hyundai forum... they say that it shifts erratically, lots of hard shifts, and they fail in like 30k. Yet they still bash the American Car Makers, such as Ford. To be honest, I bet that the Fusion would outlast any Hyundai. Not only that but people were complaining that their service people don't understand English.
I don't know what this world is coming to....
So Popular Mechanics rated the 150 poorly. Cool by me. I love mine. Put new tunes on it and an exhaust and I got everything I need. Friend has a Titan. It's cool, I guess. Very creaky sounding inside, like all the plastic is too tight or wasn't given enough expansion room or something. Had a # of GM's. Not going back. Creaky, leaky and don't even get me started on the #@@!!$ side post batteries those turds had with a tiny little bolt for two positive cables. Dodge doesn't even count as far as I see it. Talk about tired looking trucks. I've had people ride in my Lariat 4X4 which is likely not as smooth as a 2X and say they didn't even know trucks were made this nice. Maybe Ford will read PM and update, but again, it's all good by me. What would be really cool , IMO is that the insurance companies decided the Fords were low on power and cut me some slack.

I just got a 2007 F-150 XLT Supercab 4X4 with 5.4 3V
engine,3.55 LS axle and tow package on Feb.5th.I do think it could use more power. But the ride is like a car and i just love driving it.I look at it this way they can cut the F-150 down all they want. But it is the BEST SELLING TRUCK in the U.S.A case closed as far as i'm concerned and no other manufacturer can make the same claim.

I've had my F150 for just over 3 years and I still love to get in and drive it.
Over those 3 years it has had it's share of issues. I was so frustrated with having to take it in so often that I was ready to trade it for a loaded Ram 1500 Laramie. Fortunately, the deal fell through just as I came to my senses, so to speak. I realized that after having all my trucks problems fixed, at no cost to me, it's still basically a brand new truck. I would have been starting over with the warranty work on the Ram, and someone else would have had my newly repaired F150.
Since the last problem was fixed, it's been rock solid, no issues whatsoever. It starts everytime winter or summer, and hasn't left me stuck yet.
This is all just imho, but...vehicle manfacturers lobby auto magazines very heavily so 'reviews' to me are pointless, at best.
I wonder why every year the manufacturer w/ the latest 'new' design is always the 'winner' or close '2nd' The last thing i need is some review written by some tosser who's never gotten his hands dirty, whinging on about something or another that he doesn't understand. Stock horsepower numbers are misleading....they are one single data point on a horsepower curve. The truth is, pickups are designed to haul, first and foremost. Fords payload and towing numbers are excellent to say the least. I personally couldn't give a flying f*ck how my truck is off the line....what's more important is midrange power, say 90km to 140km, to me the 5.4 is very refined, tractable engine with a very wide usable power band. Plus the Toy-boata looks like ***. And you couldn't pay me to drive a 'Titan'...what's up with that roof line?? must be an integrated air-dam.
