New f150 tows 11k pounds?

Keep seeing this ad on discovery tv that the f150 can tow over 11k pounds...

Otherwise you would have to drive two trucks ( with chevys in the background )

So it went up from 9500lbs??

Yep saw that too. At the Ford website it shows in the specs that a Reg. Cab 4x2 5.4L 144.5in wheel base w/4.10 axle can tow 11K lbs. But in the commercial it looks like that is a supercab that they are standing next to which has a maximum tow rating of 9500lbs.

In another commercial, Ford has Mike Roe (Dirty Jobs fame) saying that a F150 can carry a payload of 3060lbs. Ford's site list this as being true, but you need the superduty package to make it happen. Thats 1.5 tons in a 1/2 ton truck, go figure.

The 08 F450, pickup version, is rated payload is 6120 (2wd) and 5720 (4wd). Which really alot, since my fathers 05 F350 SC, long box (8'), FX4 duallly, the rated payload is 5400 lbs. So the F450 4wd version is only rated at 320lbs more than an older F350. But the F450s are rated to tow more.

Are you saying you can use your Master's in marketing to manipulate us because we are weekminded?

Ford should get the Darwin award if they really think the F150 will tow 11k lbs.

What should i get for towing 14-15,000lbs with my supercrew then?

City folk. Hook up to the damn trailer and yank on it. It will pull it. Of course your not going to have record 0-60 times but heck, do semi's?

ughhh these threads make me puke.

You are in the same boat as me, I don't like to do it with my truck but there are times that you have to. I have pulled just under 14,000lbs with my 04. (I am now putting the flame suit on) Like you said, you won't win a drag race but the truck will do it. And for those of you that say that it isn't safe, its all in how you load the trailer and having a good brake controler. Since the trailer brakes are ment to stop the weight of the trailer and its load, not the truck brakes, they are ment to stop the GVW of the truck. And I have pulled 12,000lbs over a WI dot scale a couple of times without them even looking at me funny, so its 100% legal also, as I was under the GVW of the truck, and also under the GVW of the trailer. But I was over Fords "max tow rating" which is just that, a rating. Kinda like an R rated movie its just a rating.

Funny thing is....i bet nobody here has ever tried to pull 11,000 lbs with the single cab long bed 4x2 verion either. Would i want to pull that much again as far as i did...no..hell no. But its not like the truck is going to fall apart from pulling that much. The frame, the frame, the frame...the 3 most important parts of the truck. Ours is the strongest. Yes, more power would be nice..real nice....but i dont plan on pulling that much weight accross country on a regular basis.

And for those who said with 6,000lbs of trailer weight you feel like the suspension is going to break........wtf are you smoking?? We pull 6-8,000 lbs of trailer weight very often working construction. Truck handles like a dream. The 00 pulls it well too, but the 04/05 trucks handle way better. (again, probably due to the frame).
