Hub Replacement Pictures

I have EXTREME rocks in a blender problem. It is very very audible outside, sounds as if the truck is going to fall apart. I pulled my front end apart, I did not remove the steering knuckle, I worked around it. There is a "springloaded" so it seems, "ring" around the CV gear. It wants to push out, I don't know how to get the new hub back in and be sure hte teeth "mold" together.

I have highlighted in red the ring gear that goes around the cv axle, I need to know if that ring gear is supposed to be loose. It feels spring loaded, just want to be sure this part is not damaged. There is another ring gear identical to that embedded in my old hub, it looks damaged, I say that because it is loose and on the new hub the ring gear is set in there, no movement in the ring gear period.

If i remember right when i had mine apart that ring is supposed to be a little loose. Like you say almost like it is spring loaded. It should be seated around the gear on the hub when you slide it back in. Then the vacuum pulls it back fully onto the cv. When vacuum is realeased it slides out and onto the hub that your wheel bolts onto effectively locking your outer hub onto your inner hub/ cv axle!

I don't know if you just understood that but i think it is the best i can explain it.

Great explanation Powerage!

I just finished the install an hour or so ago, the truck is fixed. I still get a clunk in 4wd but I think thats the left hub which might also go out. How fun! The MAJOR thing is I can drive my truck after a week of sitting in the driveway, it was so severe it was undriveable in 2wd. Saved some $$$! Cost me $100 shipped for the used hub, and then had to buy another set of snap ring pullers. Not bad!

I think my drivers side hub is on it's way out the door too. It clunks. Where did you get a used hub from. My dealer wants like 400.00 for a new one. I think i'll just wait until it's toast and then get a used one if i can find it.

car-parts.com. I have gotten a ton of great deals (tcase for 390 shipped, steering rack for 125 shipped...etc).
