Exhaust opinion..

Hey guys..i have the sido magnflow out the rear.. I really want it louder. I dont want to cut the cats. Will a 14inch muffler make much of a difference over the 18? My buddy has a chevy SS with magnflow... no lie his exhaust basically gives me a boner lol. I dont want to spend a fortune. Should i replace the muffler with a different brand or what? I love the performance but i really want sound. Is flowmaster that much louder? I've been hearing something about the flowmaster 10 series but i was hoping to stay street legal hah

Stepping down to a 14" muffler from a 18" will make a [audible] difference; but no sure if it'll be up to your expectations.

A straight pipe will be ridiculously [obnoxious] loud and draw attention from the MIB's.

A Flowmaster 40 Series will have saved you the hassle, heartache and $$$ from the begining...

Flowmaster 40 Series all the way. I have mine dumped, but you can do whatever is necessary for you. I love it and I could care less about any other exhaust cause mine was super cheap and sounds better to me than the others. I had Magnaflow on my last truck, but the Flowmaster is much better sounding. Just my Opinion. Everyone here has their own. Good luck with your decision.

I'd consider the Roush Off-Road. It is very nice. I actually thought it may have been too loud at first, but that stinkin' 10 inch (yes, TEN) muffler is SWEEEEEET! Pictures are in my gallery. Oh, and none of that popping stuff when backing off or revving 'er up.

Smoke

Please clarify... Troyer seems to know what they are doing, and the numbers don't lie on the gains, so where are you coming from? If you are referencing someones ability to feel the gains when driving an exhausted truck over one not exhausted, well, I'll give you that one. But, to say a catback can't produce additional power and trque over the stock is a little far fetched.

That's precisely what I'm referencing.

Anyone who tells you that they can "feel" a 5-10HP gain [at best] is blowing smoke up your *** while massaging your parasteteis. Exhaust companies know this and take us for a [throaty sounding] ride; it's the biggest goof of all time.

I'm man enough to admit that I payed $400.00 [or so] for my Flowmaster purely for the sound . . . it had nothing to do with HP gains, as I know from several vehicles in the past that have been catbacked and then dynoed that a catback system makes ponies . . . that you cannot feel!

But hey, if you're willing to throw away $500, $1K or even $2K on a mod that you believe makes mega pony gains that takes you by the seat of your pants - based on fraudulant manufacturer claims - then more power to you .. .. and I also have a nice bridge that overlooks the breathtaking Sydney Harbour that I'll sell you for a reasonable price, okay?

I'm just trying to keep it real...

I keep hearing about these "cherry bombs" but have NFC as to what they are.

Good luck anyhow and let us know how it works out.

I'm just not impressed with the sound.. I never said anything about gaining hp and what not. I could care less if it makes my truck slower as long as it sounds good

Have you heard one of these trucks with a straight pipe (i.e....no muffler)? I ran mine for about two weeks without a muffler while I was waiting on a replacment from Banks and I can tell you it was not even nearly as loud as you are thinking. The cats act as mufflers of a sort and the exhaust even without a muffler is much quiter than a lot of true dual (no cats) trucks running around. Infact it was only slightly louder without the muffler than it is with it.
