The cats act as mufflers of a sort and the exhaust even without a muffler is much quiter than a lot of true dual (no cats) trucks running around. Infact it was only slightly louder without the muffler than it is with it.
i like loud v8's, but theres only so much you can take when youre driving on a regular basis... i have an original 40 series flowmaster (louder than the super 40) and its pretty loud. its not so loud that it drives ya nuts, but you can definatley hear me coming from a distance
the donuts video below is without any muffler, the track and dyno videos are with the flowmaster but no exit yet. now i have the lightning stle exit and it is much quieter nside the cab but still VERY noticeable

I was commenting on past experiences with other vehicles.
Intersting as this is the first I've heard of any vehilce running straight pipes which are only "slightly louder without the muffler."
While I find your claim [very] difficult to believe, I have no credible reason to doubt your first-hand experience.

I'm man enough to admit that I payed $400.00 [or so] for my Flowmaster purely for the sound . . . it had nothing to do with HP gains, as I know from several vehicles in the past that have been catbacked and then dynoed that a catback system makes ponies . . . that you cannot feel!
But hey, if you're willing to throw away $500, $1K or even $2K on a mod that you believe makes mega pony gains that takes you by the seat of your pants - based on fraudulant manufacturer claims - then more power to you .. .. and I also have a nice bridge that overlooks the breathtaking Sydney Harbour that I'll sell you for a reasonable price, okay?
