Speed Limiter or Governor
I got a 07 SCAB FX2 stock still with the 5.4 reading the threads here it has come to my attention that these trucks are down right slow. I mean I do not know what I expected when I bought it, but coming from driving a Mustang 5.0 (which I still have) and this truck it is like comparing a bicycle to a motorcycle.
I mean I do love my truck I'll be with it for the next 10 years or so hopefully unless I win the lottery, but anyway on the freeway I can not get more than 95 MPH out of her. When I step on it hard at crusing speed say 70 the tranny drops down to the next lower gear as it should, but then it holds it there it seems like and does not let it gain any speed pass 95. It feels like it is missing, but it is a new truck and I believe there is a limiter or governor of some type in the engine to prevent excessive speed. Am I correct in my assumptions?
It pisses me off the get next to a another truck especially foreign and I have to suck it up because I have nothing for them. So I preserve my dignity and let them go. It does **** me off big time though. Guess I'll be swallowing my pride for quite a few years. I do love my truck it is just slow as hell.

So you know - 3rd gear without a speed limiter is approx 130 mph when you hit the rev limiter. Trained driver, speed-rated tires & a driveshaft loop.

Get a Troyer Performance custom tune and the AF1 3.5" intake and you just may beat your stock ( if it is an automatic ) 5.0 !
Our trucks are complete hesitating slugs in their stock form. But I think they are the best lookin 1/2 ton available still. If it wasn't for the interior, especially the leather trim and center console shift in these trucks, I would have jumped off the F150 ship back in 05, but thanks to guys like MT and his custom tuning, I'll be around for a while.
And your stock tires are speed rated for 112-118 mph, depending on what it came with.

Yeah I forgot to add, you also need a world-class custom tune from TP to make enough power to get up there too. Not to mention all the other vast driveability improvements, part-throttle tq, shifting, ETC fixes, and so on.
Yeah, welcome to 300HP of nuttin'! I test drove mine and couldn't believe what a dog it was. I thought it would just kick all over my '97 4.6. Get the tuning, you'll hear that a lot. I did it and I'm very satisified with my truck. BTW, it's one of the heaviest models, Lariat SC, 4X4 , etc. Never be a sports car, but MUCH sportier now. Good off the line pickup, good shifting, good tip-in. The way it was 'sposed to be. Got a magnaflow on order since I've seen the light and now know there's a ton of potential underneath the hood. I went through Troyer and used the XCAL2. Good product, great tuning and even better service.

I figured as much on the limiter thanks guys. perhaps a few of you got the wrong impression of my inquiry. I was not looking to race my truck or break any land speed records, I was just simply inquiring as to top end. After all I do realize it is a truck a da*mn nice looking truck (that is why I bought it).
So if I have given the wrong impression please forgive me, this is my first ever truck. I have always driven cars i.e., Mustangs and back in the day a Challanger 340. I have heard it said that once you buy a truck you'll never buy anything else. Well at this point IMHO I don't think that applies to me.
You are right though the interior is fantastic even the cloth with the red stiching and the center console shift. That is what sold me on the FX2.

Understand you're not trying to race the truck. My point would be this: pay once for the tuning, which will change your shifting. Not only that, you can work with them if it's not exactly how you want it. You get three tunes with Troyer. Not sure about other setups. I opted for 87 perf., 91 perf., and 87 towing. This will wake your truck up immeasurably. Put a shift kit of some kind in, and I'll betcha you end up getting tunes down the road anyway. Hey, it's free to talk to them. Do some searches, IMHO, a tune on these trucks is mandatory.
Good luck!

I too have an 04 Mach and after the test drive I kept trying to tell myself that engine was tight and needed to be loosened up. But, with the usual exhaust, intake, and tune it wakes up. The cutting off though makes me think you do have a problem because my 05 FX4 screw F150 cuts off at 105-108. You have a two wheel drive and cut off at 95
. I would take it into a dealer and let them check it out. I told them that from 2-3 there was a hard thud in the shift. This will allow you to get the transmission firm ware upgraded

EDIT: As for your speed problem, Programmer, Intake and Exaust will help, if thats not enough Supercharge it

.as for the original poster- Troyer's XCal II solved all my trucks 'complications'...

That just means your Chebbie's d/s was crap. LOL!
Simple physics - a 6,000 lb brick going 100+ mph has a lot of kinetic energy. D/S's are fairly incompressible in the longitudinal axis. Hit it right & pole-vaulting happens.

The reason Roush does not take off the top speed limiter is because they are concerned about the stock driveshaft "wallowing" and thus coming out of the tailstock of the tranny and then pole-vaulting the vehicle - so we strongly recommend replacing the driveshaft to a good steel performance unit, and/or installing a driveshaft safety loop so that on the of chance it did come out at 150+ mph, it wouldn't pole-vault the vehicle, but instead would simply drop harmlessly into the loop, and you just slip it back in. Of course, if that were to ever happen, that would tell you to have it replaced with a better unit right away.
Remember, the stock driveshaft was never designed to turn the kinds of rotational speeds that are incurred when the vehicle is driven at 150 mph or so, which is what it will be capable of once we tune it. ...

Uhm, MGDfan is >>>> 100% <<<<< dead on !!!
Anyone one who has a mechanical background and is educated in physics can attest to this too. A racing back ground helps even more which is why NHRA & IMRA both require d/s loop on ANY vehicle (regardless of size) which runs faster than 11.49.Honestly though, this is another one of those insanely pointless threads. Only a kid or fool, or both would tool around anywhere in a full size truck at those speeds. Absolutely worthless IMHO.
