Transfer case motor

Well guys, tomorrow morning will be the 2nd time I take my truck into a dealership for a problem with my 4x4 system. the first time was last spring break.

the first time it was the transfer case motor (i guess the motor that engages the hubs). we'll see what it is tomorrow.

this is a bummer, as i have owned 5 Ford, four-wheel drive trucks, and this is the 1st one with ANY problems at all. it's not like i had been using the 4x4 system a lot, and i had been turning it on, on flat level dirt roads so that it would "oil" itself. i'm pissed really.

Just an FYI, the hubs are vacuum operated. The transfer case motor is on the transfer case, which is on the back of the tranmission. Follow the front driveshaft towards the rear and you will find the transfer case.

My 06 is fairly new and use my 4x4 just enough to keep it excercised and no issues. About 6000 miles. I have no snow, but I did some LIGHT offroading just to get things dirty and everything was fine.

50K miles so far, I use 4x4 quite a bit and I have never had a problem with it up to this point.

The transfer case motor shifts the mechanical selector on the transfer case to engage 4X4 HI, 4X4LO, and 2WD.
