New to the forum

Hi guys !

I just order a 2007 fx4 flareside Screw black w/luxury package and 20 inch wheels, I been reading and searching this forum for a few days and I'm not sure if I made a mistake . This is my secong ford truck, I had a 99 F350 diesel and I loved it but gas milage sucks.

I'll be towing a boat and it weight about 7k with trailer and everything. Per manufacture I could tow up to 8100 but it seems to me by reading this forums that it will be hard on the F150

At the biggining I order the truck with a 3.73 axel because I could tow up to 9100 pound and then change my mine and went back to 3.55 due to gas milage, with the 3.55 suppose to get 14/18per manufacture. I never could figure out how many MPG I could get with the 3.73.

I still can't understand why some people don't recomend towing more than certain weight with this F150's if they are rated to tow 8100.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Welcome!

This site is like the Media, it mostly focuses on Problems and issues and not the Good things about their trucks. I know what you mean though, reading these thread's you'd think this is the worst truck ever!

I got one of the first ones in 2003 and have been Sooooo happy with it so don't worry. It looks like you have a Sweet truck picked out!

It should tow a 7100 lb boat with out issue unless you're in the mountains or something. I assume you got the tow package? I think Ford "recommends" other trucks if you're towing a lot as they have better options out there for that, Super Duty, etc. I may have went for the 3:73 gears if you're towing a LOT.

Welcome to the club.
I have the 3.73s on my truck and i am pleased with my mileage. I average about 15mpg w/34" tires. That is almost all freeway rush hour stop and go traffic. When i hit the open road i get up to 17mpg.
Again welcome, and cant wait to see pics.

First off, welcome and congrats on the purchase!

Secondly, don't let some of the discussions here make you regret your decision. The F150 is a rock solid truck that will handle almost anything you throw at it. My experience towing my 6000lb camper is the 5.4 seems sluggish at times when I'm trying to merge with traffic or pull up a steep grade (since this is the first vehicle I've towed this kind of weight with I really have nothing to compare it to). I do remind myself that I have 6000lbs on my hitch, how fast can I really expect it to move?

As for the mileage, there really isn't much difference between the 3.55 and 3.73 gears. Both will average 12-17 mpg depending how and where you drive.

Thanks guys for the quick reply .

I'll be towing from GA to the sourounding states maybe ones or twice a year, and to a nearby lake (clarkhills lake) during the summer, a 30 miles distance.

I don't see my self towing in mountains around here.

I did get the towing package.

Again the reason I went with the smaller gear was gas millage, with the prices of gas getting higher I didn't want to spend a lot in gas, the difference between 3.55 and 3.73 was 1k pounds.

The dealer confirm the gear change yesterday.

Just wondering what is the gas milage on a f250 diesel?

I checked on the ford web site but is not listed.

For that kind of towing the F150 will do fine. Most of what you read hear is from guys who tow ALOT. A few of them have gone from an F250 down to the '150 so of course they'll notice a change.

You're going to soooo love your new truck!

It's suppose to be ready in 1 1/2 month, I orther it with FX4 luxury package, 20 inch wheels, blk tubular running boards, moonroof, pwr slididng rear window, tow pkg, pwr folding mirors, 35.7 gas tank, reverse sensing syst, two tone color (black/gray).

I just sent an email to the sale person to see it there is any way we can go back to 3.73 gear, let see what he can do.

This is the first car I ever order with all the options I wanted. I wanted to hace a sweet rig and not I'm getting it.

I thought of the new tundra but I'm a ford guy and the FX4 looks way better than the tundra. It was around 2k cheaper than the FX4 but I rather have something I like all the way.

I just hope I made the right desition regarding towing capacity.

I didn't order it with the factory nav syst because I want a rear view camera so I'll get an after market nav syst with the camera (kenwood or pioneer).

Last year I went cross country in my friend's F250 4X4 diesel SCab. We got just under 20 MPG highway with no load.

Ok get this.... Ford rated my '99 F150 to tow only 3600 lbs. Guess what I did? I towed about 6000+ lbs with no problem. On top of that, I towed that 6000+ lbs out of a boat launch a lot with no problems. The five speed made the 4.2l v6 cut hills without much stuggling and bascially it was like a piece of butter and bread. Easy for it. I don't believe I had to go over 3k rpms to get anyplace with it... and it never dogged it even at that weight.

Automatics, especially 4 speeders, only have that 2nd gear to really drop down to, my 3rd did wonders, saved me gas, and got me from point a to b quick and painless.

Just my $0.02...

Thanks guys for all the reply, I been also posting in a boat forum I belong and I'm getting great response like here.

I really appreciate all your help because I spent all day reading almost every post here and more than half recomend for this type of towing an f250.

Reading all those post I still not understanding why an f250, if the truck (f150) is rated for 8200 pounds is suppose to do the jod.

I been looking in the auto trader for used f250 diesels but the used ones are pricy and also I'll let gas millage on the sd plus diesel is not cheap as gas.

I had to give $1k non refundable but I paid with credit card, so if I decided to back off the sale I can make a dispute with my credit card issuer. At the bigining the didn't want to accept the credit card because of the stop payments with previous customer but I didn't have checks with me

Thumbs up welcome to the family

Hello and welcome I would'nt worry about your purchase the f150 is the #1 selling truck on the road for a reason, so don't worry or wonder a lot of people just like to fuss, like BHibbs said this site (at times) can be like the media and only exploit the bad stuff.
No worries you have got a great truck and I'm sure you'll be satisfied.
