Tail light laws

Hey guys.. quick question for ya. I recently put on my tail lights and they seem to be dark during the day but are bright as heck at night. The local cops are out for the tinted tail lights around here. If my lights are DOT and SAE approved i cant get in trouble right? thanks

I would think if they are DOT approved and have a red reflector, they should be good.

If they are dark, wouldn't you be more concerned that someone might rear end you? I've had a few close calls with trucks with some of these aftermarket lenses. While they look cool, they don't work worth a dam...

X2 and if they're not stamped on the lenses that they are DOT approved, carry some sort of document where it states they are.

Well said! I use to be a police officer in ga and u would get a ticket if u didnt show proof they were Dot approved. But if u do get 1 bring in your proof and provide it at court.

Just because a lense states it is DOT approved does not mean that it has been inspected and is approved.

What the manufactor wants you to believe is that the lense is built to specifications required by DOT.

Aftermarket suppliers do not submit designs to DOT for approval.

Even if it states DOT, it may not meet the requirements of your state or local laws.

Best to go online and research your own local laws. If not, you may have to explain it to the Judge.

I do like the dark lenses on the red truck.

And remember the Firebird or Camaro, I can't remember which, that had totally blacked out rear lenses?
