2004 Front rotors (vibration under braking)

I saw a thread about this a good while back but I finally have time to get my truck into the shop for this and a few other problems. Called the Svc dept and chickie doo said that it's not covered by warranty after 12 mo/18k mi.
Anyone have any suggestions? I don't really care to pay for this as it is a poor design that is the cause of the problem.

Thanks
Stan

ETA: to clarify, I know there is/was a TSB on this issue. I have had the issue for a quite a while just didn't have time to deal with it (I know not the smartest thing I've ever done/not done) While I can replace the rotors myself I don't wanna...the thing came with a 3yr /36k mi B to B warranty. That should include the brakes dammit.

Thanks for the response Phatboy...
and thanks in advance for anymore responses I get

Stan

sounds like a warped rotor???
depending on how many rotors, you could D.I.Y. for about $80 for 1 rotor??
I could be wrong but this should be covered under the 3years 36,000miles, if I'm not mistaken?
sorry If I'm wrong though? If you need to incur the costs it shouldn't be any more than
Graham

i had warped front rotor(s) about a while back. the dealer wouldnt fix them under warranty claiming that it was a wear and tear issue and not a defect i dont know if thats the case or if they just said that because i have a modded truck.

it really depends on your dealer if they are decent people... i have taken my truck to team ford in alpharetta and world ford in sandy springs, and im not very pleased with the customer service at either...

my brakes were shaking REALLY bad, and i was able to have them turned which solved that.

2wd front rotors are $177 online and 4wd fronts are $88. they could be a good bit more if you go to the dealer. i see that you live in lawrenceville, i went to gwinnett place ford when i had to buy one rotor, but i cant remember exactly how much i payed for it. and this was do to a bad wheel bearing and not a warped rotor.

bottom line, i would try to have them turned if the dealer isnt going to cover them. if you are going to replace one yourself, you will also need to buy a spindle nut and socket to get them on and off..

good luck

I had the front rotors, calipers and pads replaced to fix a steering shimmy when braking. I had about 3 months left on my warranty and about 30,000 miles on the clock when it was done. My dealer told me that Ford can be sticky about brake issues but because there was a TSB for my problem warranty would cover it.

So either I have a really good dealer, or your dealer is blowing smoke.

My dealer "fixed" 3 times under warranty. Each time there was a new update to TSB so they did something different. I haven't seen the problem again which has probably been about 5-6k miles. I am still keeping an eye on it though. Either show them the TSB number, talk to their manager, or try another dealer.

I'm having the same problem... do you remember what the TSB numbers were and what issues the updates addressed? That may make a difference in getting them to foot the cost of fixing it. Thanks for the help!

PBCrisis, let me know if you find a local dealer that'll fix them. I'll be right behind you!

Thanks all...I'll keep checking with local dealers. Advantage of living in Atlanta area is GA has the 2nd most dealerships in the country (behind Cali) so I have plenty to choose from.

I'll report back on my findings.

There are a couple out there for the 04, not sure if they apply to later years but probably do. They will probably try to just do the Apr 05 one first as that is just replace front rotors, then the Oct 05 which is possibly replace rack and pinion depending on build date of truck and fully replace rotors and calipers no matter what build date.

From Alldata.com

05-21-19 OCT 05 Brakes - Front Brake Roughness/Shudder
05-6-21 APR 05 Brakes - Front Brakes Shudder/Vibrate Upon Application

I have the same vibrating/shimmy problems with my 04. Last oil change I told them my steering wheel was vibrating at around 70mph. They checked it out and my front tires were out of balance. They rebalanced and problem was fixed. Now 4k later I noticed the same vibration coming back but now I also have a vibration when I hit the brakes. This feels like the rotors are warped. So I guess back to the service department for this crap again. They better not give me any **** since they have already had one chance to fix it and obviously just put a bandaid on it.

Oh yeah, one more thing, I also have the mushy pedal too. I pump it once and the pedal is rock solid.
