Im sure blue would go over real well with the guys in the black and white cars.
And im not really sure what color they are but if i get bored i just might take them apart and look at them. I also don't know what you would do to cahnge the color of the plastic.

  1. There is a white bulb behind the orange plastic. They are not leds' they are only meant to look like leds.
  2. By law, you can only have red on the rear of the vehicle for indicator lamps. Even if you found a way to change the plastic, You are giving a Law Enforcement Officer a reason to pull you over. (re: the lighting that shines on license plates is called a "dope light" by some LEO; if it is not working, they have probable cause to initiate a traffic stop, and eventually check the vehicle for dope)

rear facing turn indicator lights by law cannot be anything other than amber or red

I'm sure you could find some red tint spray in a can simalar to niteshades to change the lense from amber to red and still be legal

Agree. Pretty sure they are leds...

Plus - a good thing to - time to add my sequential high-brightness turn indicator mod (remember the old Cougar rear sequentuial turn signals ?).

Just need to finger out the effect - travelling single led, 'Cylon', etc, and also settle on the rate.

For you fellow solder fumers - a good application for LM3914's

Cheers
Bubba

I would agree -- I'm almost certain that they are LEDs.

Color can be either red or amber...per law. No cop will pull U over for that, however, any other color will be PC to pull. I know I will.

I had my mirror broken into pieces. That blinking piece is 1 solid piece of plastic amber in color and has just a plug so the wiring can be pluged in.
I do not tink you can take it out. The owners manual states if it stops working or if a light goes out, you have to bring it to the dealership.

They are absolutley LED's 100% positive. I just replaced my drivers side mirror, its a solid one piece orange housing with about 6 or 7 LED's behind it and then built in resistors siliconed into the plastic. There's no way to tell if they are orange or clear LED's scince the plastic is orange. I have a 2004 SCrew and the newer model trucks have a darker orange color than the older models. I ended up taking apart the new replacement mirror and swapping the LED's from my old broken mirror cuz it looked ridiculous with 2 differant colors on each side. Haha probably not something anyone else would even notice but if you're like me you know what I mean.

If you feel like you want to take out the blinker to check it out yourself it can be done. Its clipped into the mirror housing. What you need to do is remove the mirror class carefully so you dont break the glass or the plastic clips that hold it onto the housing. Then there are 4 small silver torque screws that hold the mirror cover onto the assembly. Remove those and carfully pull off the cover. Then your left with the backside and all the components exposed. just unplug the blinker from the harness and then unclip the blinker from the housing and your all set.
