Aux Line In , in case anyone needed an idea.

I have been on a mission to get the new 07 Dash tray with the Aux audio plug to work in my truck. At the moment I have not been able to do that yet. So in the meantime I did this little set up. I used the following two items (By the way this worked for my old Audiophile stereo before I upgraded to the OEM NAV unit. It works with the NAV unit as well.):

1. The well known PIE adapter FRD04-aux

2. Scosche Car Stereo Auxiliary Input with Retractable Cable Scosche DCAXU (Mine is black, the one in the picture on Amazon has a white cable)

Anyhow, I ran the audio plug through the back of the ash tray housing, and then stuck it in with the double sided tape it comes with. I tried to get it as close to the bottom of the ash tray as I could (The back has wires coming out) so it can't be placed flush unless you cut a whole in the ash tray which I did not want to do. Since I did not cut a whole I just ran the wire up right next to the plug. You should be able to see the wire in the picture, hardly noticable. You have to make sure you install the plug as low as possible to allow for clearance of the line in cable to be plugged in and still be able to close the ash tray.
So now I can listen to my MP3 player through my system, and there are no wires showing when not in use because it is hiding when the ash tray is closed. When in use all you see is the retractable cable coming through the seam of the ash tray. I thought I would share this in case anyone could use this info. The plus side to this, is that I can sit my mp3 player in the cup holder. Not sure where I will put it when I get the dash tray hooked up. Really would not want it on the try to high and out of the way. I could run a longer line in cable that would reach to the cup holder, but then I would have a wire hanging down my dash. Who knows I might just stick with this and scrap the whole 07 dash idea......

Keep in mind, there are probably other places you could install this audio line in plug. This was the best place I could think of without making any holes.

Line in plug, with tray open

Line in plug with the retractable line in cable plugged into it. (The other end plugs into the MP3 player, obviously)

Ash Tray closed with the retractable line in cable still accessable. When not in use the cable goes back in the tray and the ash tray stays closed as normal with no visual signs of any modification.

Enjoy.
