I was wondering all those that have had gear swaps... where have you had it done? where do i go about purchasing gears for both front and rear? what prices should i expect to pay?

I was planning on 35s with stock 3.73 gears... but would love 37s with 4.56s or something....

I had mine done locally by a guy that does rear-ends on the side. Took him 2 days to do the rear of my truck, but he did it all while the axle housing was on the truck with truck on ground.

Best I recall, I paid $180 for labor, roughly $300 for ring and pinion+ gear lube (he's a AMSoil dealer) and install kit.

Came out to about $550 best I recall. Search for Randy's ring and pinon locally.

Dunno what to tell you. Stealerships will rob your wallet.

Just look around for gearsets on ebay, you can usually get a steal for someone who backed out of the install, like me.

I have 4.56's for the 9.75, min install kit. They are Yukon's, make an offer I can let them go cheap. They are brand new. It's missing a pinion seal which is about $20 at the dealership. Yukons are known to be the best but a hefty price comes with that.

I know I can get a good amount for these but I got a deal on them myself. They're in the classifieds.

I was quoted $1400 or so in Vegas for front and rear 4.56 gears installed. I came back to Alaska and paid $2000-2200 for 4.56 gears at the local Ford dealership. The local tranny and driveline shop quoted the same, so I went with the Ford dealership. Wish I would of picked them up in Vegas!

Shop around, but make sure you have a reputable shop do the install. Also, it might be worth it to check and see if they require you to buy the gears from them, or if you can bring in your own. They probably won't warranty them if you buy them from somebody else.

how do i know what my truck has for a rear-end? 9.75 or 10.25? Yukon has them listed for both

http://www.yukongear.com/DiffList.as...F150&Side=Rear

and the front is an 8.8? same as whats in the rear of my mustang?

http://www.yukongear.com/DiffList.as...F150&Side=Rear

but then they list an 8.8 for an 83-06 F-150 for the rear (is this for a V6?)

6 lug wheel with a 5.4 is the 9.75 rear. The 10.25 is seven lugs.

Or search for what 'rear axle number' in the forum. The vin code has been posted five or six times.
