Air aid cai annoying drone

04 f150 have had the air aid cai installed for a while know. i have always had a very annoying drone like sound that vibrates the entire interior while driving(the ashtray,dashboard,instument cluster). this mainly happens when at steady speeds on the highway and only happens when it kicks into overdrive. if i tap on the accelerator to drop down a gear the noise goes away and then appears when overdrive kicks in. i want to know if there is a solution to this. i have tries installing shims under the airaid plate on the tube thinking it would help but nothing yet. everything is tight and secure as far as i can tell. thanx.

One user had his airtube rubbing against something on the manifols.
I've had mine in for 6 months,no drone,vibrations,etc. Just moans when I floor it. There ia a acoustical material called Dynomat one user installed inside the box to reduce drone. Good luck

thanx, as far as i can see i dont see anything rubbing at all unless its at the top where it meets the hood insulation.

Can the dynomat user chime in and lemme know if it took care of it. i will try and do another search, its just hard when there is so many topics regarding cai, and yet im adding another one.

Yup! Mine did the exact same thing. I think it arrived by UPS on a Tuesday, was on my truck by that evening, and was back to UPS to it's second new owner by Friday. I tried everything I could reasonably think of in those 2 days, to no avail. Couldn't stand it.

On another note, I'd really like to give the 3.0 AF1 a try. Problem is that nobody around here stocks it. I have to buy from Troyer (or some other mail-order place). I absolutely HATE mail-order.

(Nothing negative intended against MT, as I have his tunes. I just like to see it in person before I buy) I think Troyer should have 2 locations, a West Coast and an East Coast store.

The "drone" is nothing more than the metal were the filter joins the tube vibrates when you begin to lug (overdrive) the engine.

I've had mine for about 3 months and mine doesn't drone.Mine's a Roush CAI but it's the same as an Airaid,but it says Roush on it instead of Airaid.
It may depend on how old your Airaid kit is.I heard some revisions were made to their intake kit at some point.I don't know if it was revised to fix a drone issue or what?

airaid changed the design of the heat shield to fix the issue about a year ago, I have the older one. You'll know if yours is old or new depending on heat shield color.
black= old
silver= new

That's the 1800rpm drone... Did it on my 05 and 06 on the stock tune only and when in OD. The TP tunes totally removed drone but I have since replaced with an AF1. My bro has an 05 with the Airaid kit and also drones at 1800 rpm and these are both the newer models. It almost sounds like it may have something to do with the plastic intake tube.

if the heat shield is silver you have the newer system. If yours has drone, airaid may not have fixed the issue after all.
