Instrument Cluster Light Change

I know that there has been a lot of talk about people wanting to change the color of their instrument clusters on here. After reading posts about people trying I decided open mine up and figure out what could be done. Once I got the cluster out I completely disasembled each piece and took the overlay off. On the back of the overlay I found that there was was green backing that was giving the cluster its color. So I decided to take a chance and scrape it off. I got it off of all of the gauges before i had to put it back together. Now I have white gauges. The only things that are still green are the transmission gear indicator and the message center. Both of which I think will be able to be changed as well.

And now for the pics.

Tomorrow I am going to try and either find blue bulbs or some blue film to put on the back of the cluster to make it blue. Feel free to ask any questions. And the pics are off my camera phone but I will get bettere ones up tomorrow.

Not sure how big you're talking, but maybe you could find some of that blue film / plastic that they use for colored flashlights... i've seen it in Blue and Red... not sure... just a thought.

Hit a local music store and ask about gels for spotlights. They make all different colors...

ive also seen stained glass paint used for this. since the paint is made to be transluscent and permanent it works well.

do you have bright spots where the bulbs are at? i know its darker closer to the bulb on the factory green, and lighter as it goes away to compensate for the brightness.

That's pretty sweet glad to see someone had the...intestinal fortitude to do it. Not to be a jack but what about everything else thats green? Can you change that or are you just gonna have two different colors? C would do this in a heartbeat especially if you could change everything, I'd match it with my edge and my headunit

Edward i did this with my AC panel, and used one of those translucent paints that they use for those plastic stencil art kits, and it turned out very un even. and looks like crap, if you watch my track videos again (click) and you can see the green gauges, vs the whitish blue AC panel

I think everyones best bet is going to a craft store, buyin a sheet of the translucent plastic film, pulling the old one out, and tracing it out onto the new one, that way you can return to stock easier if needed.

Ill do the gauges in the film, and the rest of the interior will be going to blue LEDS
