The only thing that bothers me is the rotors. Am i correct and the tech told you to replace them and he hadn't even seen them yet? My suggestion call a local shop and they can tell you exactly how a car handles when the rotors need to be changed or re-surfaced. I had to re-surface my rotors on my old car for several reasons including my car shaking at a constant speed and uneven brake pad wear. And they were right too because after i watched them re-surface my rotors car ran fine. Oh yeah and i resurfaced them at about 135,000 miles

Tell you what - read the above thoroughly & since you will very likely remain a skeptic, just leave yours in, okay? No problem for you, just a problem for the next guy who gets your truck.

Sorry to inundate you with pithy examples of reality

Oh, yeah - almost forgot, Josh ... in addition to the plugs replace the front O2's.... they are also in need of replacement - no such thing as lifetime O2's either. Gee, was that another pithy comment? MY BAD!

Relax - the OP's gonna do what he's gonna do... facts/fiction/hearsay or otherwise. As one fella put very succinctly, there is no gun being put to your head.

Cheers

WOW. I guess “pithy” is a bit abrasive. Sorry.

My disagreement stems only from the spark plug comment, and nothing else. My 2000 Lariat had 57K when I traded it in on the 06 back in Sept. Never had any issues, but then again, it only had 57K.

If you are not alerted to any degradation in the plugs from the OBD, then the obvious symptoms of plugs going south would be deceasing fuel economy and poor performance. By the same token, these could also be attributed to other problems too, not just plug wear.

Practically every auto manufacture, foreign and domestic, tout 100k mile tune up intervals. If plugs never really made it to that milestone, I doubt the likes of Mercedes, Volvo, BMW, Lexus….would advertise such a claim. They would have a lot of dissatisfied customers. One could argue that not many people typically keep those sorts of vehicles long enough to witness that mileage claim. BUT, someone will own these vehicles at some point and have to deal with the plugs at that interval. Do I fully expect my plugs to last to 100K? I really have no idea, but I don’t have any major doubts that they are capable of lasting that long due to the mechanical engineering which goes into today’s modern plugs and engines. Being an engineer myself in addition to a die hard gear head, I’ll definitely know when my plugs need replacing. I’m banking on somewhere in excess of 75K for sure, but given the fact that I don’t put that many miles on my truck, it may be gone before I ever make it to that mark. Ultimately, only time will tell in the end, but I do feel that plugs have the ability to last close to if not beyond the manufactures claims on a properly maintained, non-abused and non-modified vehicle !!

Oh, one other thing, as far as your comment “Sorry to inundate you with pithy examples of reality”, seriously, show me the numbers. How many hundreds of thousands of F150s are out there? You have a hand full of owners on this forum and others. The comments you get are but a drop in the bucket, correction, ocean compared to all the vehicles out there with “happy, long lasting plugs”. I’m an engineer by trade, and by nature, so I deal in hard numbers. Let us not forget the combined millions of other vehicles from the other auto makers in the WORLD. Again, a mere drop in the ocean in reality.

Thanks for good natured banter though!
