Bed of the truck shakes at over 60 mph

Bed of the truck shakes at over 60 mph

Anyone have this problem? Once i hit 60 on the freeway i can feel and see out of my mirrors that my bed is shaking. I have no steering wheel nibble, but my passenger seat also shakes. I saw another F150 driving around today and his was doing the same thing. It seems some roads are worse than others.
I am going to go get my tires (Nitto Terra Grapplers 295 70 17) rebalanced to see what that does. But I want to know if is anyone else who has noticed this, and how did you resolve this.
I searched for a while and everything i read was about the e-brake hanging up.
I looked at the e-brake it is not hung up.

I can feel it inside the cab but it is not that bad. It may look worse than it feels.

Sounds normal, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. The cab is rubber mounted to pick up and absorb vibrations transfered into the vehicle. Remember you are riding in a 6,000# tank so there are a lot of vibrations.

I've read quite a few threads about this and my truck does it too. It starts at 62 and stops at 69. I believe I read that the axleshafts are not perfectly balanced. If you're that concerned about it try buying aftermarket axles. I just try not to drive between 62 and 69 mph.

Sounds good to me. On PHX freways you can only drive 2 speeds, 75mph or 7.5mph.

Ive had had the bed wiggle ever since I installed the 35" tires. Which they say my rear left is out of round. Anyways from 55-65 mph my bed will shake pretty good. By any chance does anyone know if this will hurt my truck over time?

Mine does the same thing...Its just like Thump said...it's because of the rubber mounts....

I was curious, will bad shocks cause this to happen. I have 50k on the truck.

It can't be good for the truck. I'd imagine that if you did mostly highway driving at the speed that made the truck vibrate you would eventually run into problems. If your truck is like mine, the shaking is pretty bad.
It will probably tear up steering, suspension and most likely tires.

I cannot come up with any reason why bad shock would cause shaking at highway speed. Worn out shocks would most likely make it worse, though.

My replies may be worthless, however, as I have consumed roughly 9 beers.

So I finally had time to drop the truck off for tire balancing at Big O on Guadalupe and the 101. Those guys are good. They said the tires were way out of balance. They rebalanced the tires and it is a night and day difference. Thanks Big O.

I would be carefull about letting this go. In my last truck I blew out a driveshaft one night trying to drive through a creek with a "hey hold my beer and watch this!" move.

Anyways I had to have another one built. about two years later after trying to avoid the shimmy at 72-78 mph I decided to take it to have it harmonically ballanced. The people I bought my original one put a few weights on it for looks only (when I called them out on it they said if it is built true it doesn't need to be balanced). Well it was out of balance the whole time. As a result I was losing transmission fluid slowly through a worn out (wallowed out) seal at the back of the tranny (after a while not right away). It doesn't take too much time to get it re-balanced, just be sure to take it off your self and bring it in cause they like to charge $40 a bolt (X4 in my case) to remove from your truck. Just a heads up to avoid bigger charges in the future.
