Need help dealer called for the TSB Alt. noise
My dealer just called and he said he can't find a TSB, but wants to fix it for me. Does anyone have it? I check the other thread and sent him the infor from that and he says it is not on Fords site.
If you know please help this noise is driving me crazy! Of course it is not doing it today!

It sounds like a whining noise coming from the Passenger mirror. Only does it when it is cold outside. It changes with RPM's and when I hit the gas the pitch goes up and when you coast the pitch goes away. I am sure it is the Alt. whine.

There is NO tsb for an alternator noise.
Did you hold your stethoscope to the alternator to find that it is producing a noise? It could very well be something else..
-Injector noise (ticking) is normal.
-Lifters can make noise which is normal to an extent of loudness.
-VCT phasers may knock which is normal.

Others have had this problem as well and said the Alt. fixed it. So I thought there was a TSB. The other thread has one listed but said it was removed, so who knows.

jpetre I don't believe that Ford ever officially came out with a TSB. I had this high pitched whistle last year, Syptoms - Outside air temperature below 32 degrees, any steady speed where the RPMs were between 1500 and 2000. Let off the throttle whistle fades away, increase the throttle the whistle fades away. The colder it is outside the more frequent and pronounced the whistle is.
The Ford dealer that I went to found a "Special Service Message (SSM) 18632 - 2004-2005 F-150 Generator Hoot/Whistle Noise In Extreme Cold" in their system on one of the days that I brought it in for diagnosis. The next day that they tried to look up more information about it the SSM was gone from the Ford bulletin board. Luckily I had the service advisor print a hard copy of the SSM the day he found it and I just brought it back to him. I presented the SSM and the information about what another Ford dealer had done to resolve the problem for another F150online member and my dealer replaced the alternator. I haven't had the high pitched whistle since it was replaced. It sounds like there are weak diodes in some of the 04 alternators.
Print out this post and take it to your dealer, it may help them decide to replace the alternator, if they haven't already. Good luck.
