Cold Weather High Pitched Engine Noise

I have an 05 SCAB with the 5.4 and when the truck sits out in very cold weather I hear a very high pitched noise coming from the engine on start up. I comes and goes for the first few minutes after start up. It is not a belt and does not happen all of the time. Once the engine is up to temp the sounds go away. Any Techs seeing this problem ??

Thanks

These modeular engines just make noise upon startup when they are cold...I use fully synthetic 5w-20 and it has done it since it was new.....others report the same thing....I don't knwo what to tell you!

Join the team. You think this would get more press and Ford would do something about it. It's kind of a big thing when you think about it. I've never seen another vehicle do it.

I have been told it has to do with the oiling of the valve train.

i got some kind of whining noise this morning at 6 degrees outside, for the first time on my 2004. sounds like the same noise my 1993 f150 makes a lot, but on it it comes from around the water pump pulley and the fan belt area.

My 06 does it too. It keeps doing it when it is below minus 20 celcius.

My does it as well, and has done it since it had about 5,000 miles on it.

Mine does it when it is about 45 or below out.

EXACTLY! Just the power steering pump complaining about the cold. I have yet to own a vehicle that didn't do this in extreme cold.

Make sure that your air filter is seated correctly and not leaking aroung the seal which could cause the offending noise.
