Factory Nav unit from Ebay, can I still get it to work?
I posted this in the Navigation section, but figured since this one get's more traffic, I would post it here too.
Kind of a long story:
Here is my situation, I purchased a stock Nav unit on eBay a couple of weeks ago. The auction said it was a Ford unit out of a truck that only had 15 miles on it. Knowing that there are Nav units made by ford for Lincoln and Mercury, I asked the seller which logo did the unit flash on the screen when it booted up. The response was that it was a Ford Logo, so I bid on the item and won for a total of $803, thought I got a good deal. I was getting the OEM GPS antenna, the OEM Sirius Tuner, the Head Unit, and the Navigation DVD. Sent the seller the money, had decent communication with the seller, and was told the item had been shipped. About 3 days later, I receive an email from EBay stating that I had bid on an item that was sold by an account that had been compromised, and that I should submit a claim with Papal because I probably would not receive anything. So I went ahead and listened to EBay and placed my claim. I reached out to the seller, but he would not respond to me, so I really thought I had been scammed as EBay had mentioned. Then the seller responds to paypal with a tracking number, so now I don't know what to think. Well about two weeks go buy since I won the auction and a package arrives today. I open it up and it is all the stuff I had won, the head unit, the tuner, the antenna and the Navigation DVD. So of course I am excited, first that I was not scammed and second that I had my new toy. So after I get it all installed, it powers up and guess what flashes across the screen, the Mercury Logo. So Now my excitement has gone away. I follow the prompts and move on to see if it works. The stereo works, the Navigation DVD works, my audiophile sub is working, even my PIE AUX adapter seems to be working (Right side sounds a little louder than the left though) everything seems to be working, right, wrong.
Problem:
It does everything except find my current position. It seems to know where I am because it shows the map and on the map is has me correct in the area that I am in (Pretty accurate too). However, when I hit the "Current Position" button it says "Unknown, TX". When I drive it does not show me moving, along the road, it will just move the map once I am stopped. If I set a course, it will not recognize that I am moving. It knows I am in TX and it knows at least the block I am on, just won't tell me the name or show me moving.
Question: Since obviously this did not come out of a Ford vehicle, if I were to get it reprogrammed would that fix my problem or is this just a faulty unit? Or can I even have it reprogrammed, I have read that you can.
Thanks

Simply call Mark (a.k.a., "nothinbutaford" on these forums) at @ 978-815-5111 m-f 9-5 eastern time. He set me up with the unit displayed below. He had to reprogram the HU so that my Lariat steering wheel controls would work. He also changed the EQ curve since the HU didn't have any highs.
He's very good to work with and very courteous!!!!

Sorry for the dim pics....

Yup, I have been talking to him, real nice guy. I called him this afternoon after I installed it and ran into my problems. I left him a message, so I am sure I will get a call from him soon. I just figured I would post the question in case anyone else had any info. Thanks
rms8 thanks for the props and efiguero we'll get that straightened out. For the rest out there looking for a ford nav, be very carefull with ebay if the radio's they are selling are locked there is no way around reprograming it. It quickly becomes an expensive paper weight. I can set you up with a new unit with a full warranty and full programing. Give me a buzz @ 978-815-5111
