Dealers givin you a pick of tires what would you get?

So the dealer as part of my deal for the truck I'm getting has agreed to get tires put on my truck for me. What would you get? I'm thinking a set of 285x65R18 on the stock Lariat wheels? Will I be ok or will it rub in the front. I have no plans at the moment for a lift. Just wondering what tire you would get and why?

If it is a 4x4 go for it. It will look real nice.

depends. 4x4 or 4x2? they have different suspension heights. i have the lariat 4x4 and run the stock 275/65/18 ATs with no problem, and im sure 285s would fit but might possily rub at turns over ruts or turning at above average speeds(trimming will fix that). for a 4x2 you could probably fit 285s with a trim of front fender, or get spacers on the front and it will fit for sure (although your truck will sit more level). If you go with all terrain tires i suggest the BFG at ko tires becuse they have good offroad performance and excellent tread life.

Here are 2 pics of my truck when I first got it with 285's (BFG AT KO). They were brand new on my trade-in, so I made the dealer swap as part of the deal. There was no rubbing at all. I now have a leveling kit, but just for looks.

Rims aside, I would want the best brand tire
Michelins Best on these trucks
BFG seem pretty good.
Goodyear I see too many posts about bad ones.
All the rest are bottom feeder brands.

I love my Lariat rims with BFG Long Trails but on a 4x4 the Rugged trails would be available choice.

My BFG RuggedTrails sucked **** compared to the Goodyears Wranglers in sand and snow. On the street they handled the same with the Wranglers a bit louder. And i feel safer towing with a "LT" tire than a "P" tire anyday.

And when these tires run out.. I will buy goodyears again.

Don't confuse personal experience or preference with statistics.
Samples of one are just that, samples of one.

There are about 40 posts denigrating the Goodyear tires on this forum, lots more on other forums.

That said, I believe you had good luck with them.
Tires are made in 'runs' some better than others.
That’s just a fact of life with tires.

Some companies have more 'bad runs' than others; some tires are better designed for a particular use than others.

If there were fewer threads complaining about the Goodyears I wouldn't have rated them lower than the Goodrichs. \

In addition, there are about a half dozen posts denigrating the BFG tires, but there are hundreds denigrating the Contracs, Generals, etc.

This is not a personal thing. I have had fair luck with Goodyears, and excellent luck with Michelins.

However, I have had a defective Michelin from the factory, replaced by Michelin. The tire was out of round, this was not on an F150.

Goodyear can make a decent tire, has made decent tires. But your best odds on these trucks, these years, are not on the Goodyears.
Still, I would take them ten times over the lesser choices.
Remember, the price is the same in this situation so anyone that would pick the Goodyears over the Michelins needs to examine their motivations…

I may hold off now on tires. My payment creeps up some. Not terribly high ($18), but thats alot of interest to pay on tires. Not to mention I didn't think the tires looked all that bad on the truck when I checked it out. If I replaces the stocks with another set of rugged trails the payment changes by $10. I might hold off, I've got dreams of autosprings and some new tires and wheels dancing in my head...

I'm not quite sure what to do. Typically having the tires thrown in wouldn't be a problem, but I've had him get some more stuff for the truck that I felt was more needed right now.

I have bought several sets of Michelins over the years, they are the only tire I buy till I see a reason to do otherwise. Have the LTX M/S on my truck right now, and the Cross SUV on my Expedition.
