Question silverstars, blue lights, HELP!

hey guys..

i have been thinking lately, and when i first had my truck a buddy gave me a set of his silverstars to put in.. bc he got rid of his truck..

i wasnt really impressed with them since i could only see a small improvement in color..and it was more white looking than blue..

*** what is the bluest, brightest, cheap head and fog light i can get.. i DO NOT want to go to HID's.. im talking about spending maybe $100... i like the head lgihts that come on liek the navigators.. where there BRIGHT but also like a cool blue..

can silverstars give me that?.. is there a certain product that is blue.. etc..

thanks in advance for any help

Just as a heads up, the bluer the light (especially when it is just a tinted bulb) the less light output you will get on the ground. Also, in the rain, blue is absolutely useless. Yellow is the best color to see everything (why a lot of fog lights are yellow) but yellow isn't considered a cool color, so the next best is white. Just my $.02, but this is a mod I have tried, and the result is awful (although it does LOOK cool.)

When the silverstars first came out in 2002 they where alot better than the ones that they are putting out now. I recently bought some not to long ago and I was not impressed. If you are planning on spending 100 bucks why not spend another 100 bucks and get some HIDs?

$80 will get you a set of Silverstars for both the headlights and foglights. A good HID kit for both will cost you about $500 plus shipping. Silverstars are the best thing next to HIDs. I just bought some the other night, we'll see how good they really are here soon.

They currently don't make a Ultra in our bulb size.

What exactly are you confused about?

Did you pay $600 for each kit or combined?

I've been down this road and it sucks. I ran some nokya bulbs for a minute. they looked good, nie and blue. I actually saw them in my buddys car and thought they were HIDs at first glance.. to bad the light output sucked donkey nutz. I was constantly having to strain to see anything.. and the high beams which I used all of three times burnt out in about 3 months... which was the only way I could see while driving the unlit back roads at night. I went to the silverstars and can see again.. color is about the same as stock but a tad bit brighter

Let me offer my experience and expertise. I have the H13ST Silverstar headlight bulbs and the 9005St fogs in my '05. From a bang for the buck standpoint, the 9005's in the fogs are the best mod. The 9145 is the "correct" bulb for the fogs, but it'a about half the wattage of the 9005 - which is actually a high bean bulb. Yes, although it's higher wattage, you can get away with running it without melting suff because it's not overly powerful. Folks have melted all sorts of things by swapping 85 and 100 watt bulbs in there. Don't make that mistake.

As for color, too much blue will actually cut down on useful light on the ground - as has already been stated. Yellow being a better color is a myth - proven by recent scientific study. Why do folks run yellow? (All French vehicles are required by law to run yellow, but hey, they're French!) I have some friends (who drive plow trucks) that used to swear by yellow. I showed them the light (sorry) last year when I swapped yellow, then white bulbs in their favorite plow lights. Yes, white was indeed more efficient. Try them head to head and you'll see.

Hope that helps!

what kind of modification it involved in getting the 9005s to fit in the 9145 housing. do you just shave a bit off the one nub on the bulb?

Thumbs up

I agree with 2stroked. My silverstars (headlight & fogs) are great. Had them in about 5 months,no problems with the lenses degrading.
