Who has Remote Start?

I want to get this for my truck at some point. What are my options? I have the factory alarm. can something be tied in with that? or do I have to disable it and get an entire new setup.

If so give me some opinions on some that you guys have had. I have never had an alarm with remote start so I don't know what extra features may be included with that sort of setup.

Talking

I recently added the OEM remote start to my 2006 F150 SCrew. I did a lot of looking and pricing, and found that a local stereo shop in my area was where the Ford dealer was going to send my vehicle to do the install anyway.

The stereo shop was able to get the OEM part for me ( I got the basic remote start without alarm) and do the install for less than $500 (parts and labor). Ford does have a version with the alarm feature too (a bit more expensive I would guess).

I absolutely LOVE having the remote starter, and I don't know what I would do without it now. Living in Northern VA, we get both extremes of heat and cold throughout the year. I am able to start my truck in the morning and warm it up (nothing like a toasty truck on a cold winter day), and I look forward to having my truck pre-cooled off in the summer.

This is my first experience with a remote starter, and I have to say all my vehicles from this point on will either come with one or I will have one installed.

I found my remote starter here: http://www.fordaccessories.com/produ...artSystem.aspx (this is the basic system)

Hope this helps!

Cheers

I cant say much about the factoy remote start/alarm. But i have the clifford RSX 3.5 and love it. although it is an aftermarket alarm w/ remote start, im thinking you want something to tie in w/ what you already have. I personally like it for the 2-way remote, the remote start feature is just a bonus!

I had to go to three different local dealerships to get the best price around for a Ford Alarm & Remote start unit. Same unit from all three dealerships I got three different prices. $600.00 from first 550.00 second and finally third said they would beat the others and go 500.00 for parts, labor and taxes. They had the best price around me and being that its a Ford unit they can't say anything about it affecting my warantee.

I love having the remote start. It has been in the teens the last couple of days here. Going out to an already warm vehicle before and after work is great.

no I am more interested in an aftermarket alarm.....especially if the ford option is gonna cost me $500.

an aftermarket alarm is probably less than that and it has more features including remote start.

I am just trying to get an idea of what people are using and how they like them.

FX4life how well does your 2way work...I have heard that a lot of them are incosistent and break all the time. what is the range?

I recently had keyless entry installed on my XL and I loved it , so I went back to my local stereo shop and had them add on a remote start and I love it too. It is nice to be able to start your truck in the morning or even on your way to the truck from across the parking lot. I think mine was around 4 bills altogether.

Yeah it was a good deal... When I lost my remote for it they wanted $100 for it, went to another shop and was able to get a Clfford lcd remote for $75. Around here most shops dont like eachother very much, when I was looking for my alarm I just BS em and told them that "this shop said they could do it for this price" So thats how I got my deal

Tuff4d,

What kind of range does your alarm have when it pages the remote if the alarm were going off?
