I'm not really into lowered trucks. It's a truck (like was said before) it should be lifted. I wouldn't mind a '67 Fastback that had a good looking lowered stance.

Also, you guys have got me sold on the ford. I'm not going to get a fifth wheel for a few more years, that should be about enough time to wear out a brand-new truck.

I'm thinking an SCab, Lariat 4x4 With almost every option (I don't like the sunroof and if a GPS is available, I already have a Garmin unit). I could get the FX4, but I like the Lariat/XLT Grille, and the wheels aren't that big a deal because I'm going to put some American Racing Teflon coated rims on it-Oh, and and some BFG's. Not really sure about AT's or MT's, but, lets get the truck first.

I'll be coming back to you guys for lots of ideas, thanks.

Personally, I feel the only light duty trucks worth considering are the F150 and the Dodge Ram. It amazes me to see GM redesign the Silverado/Sierra and still end up with something that can't even compete on the most basic level. They still are using front disc/rear drums unless you spring for the Vortec max package. Then you get 4 wheel disc brakes, the lift assist tailgate is an option as well. Ford leads the pack by simply building the strongest line of trucks with the most standard features. You have to check off alot of boxes to create a GM that even comes close to a Ford.

Hey now, no put downs. I said in the beginning that I didn't want any of that. Er, if I didn't, I'm saying it now.

lol, they still have drum brakes in the rear. I checked them out yesterday and chuckled to myself. Although the interior is much improved, the truck really looks like a car inside. It's roomy and your visibility is closest matched to a car, not a truck. Less "tough" of an interior but it's nice. The salesmen is a friend of mine, and he was going on and on about how they went to a show in Sacramento, and they pulled a new F-150 with a new silverado. I saw the pic, the F150 had one tire smoking and I'm willing to bet the chevy had LS, if not 4wd. I wished I was stock for the moment so I could offer to hook up to a chevy on the lot. Annoys the crap out of me, the video is everywhere. I doubt these trucks outweigh us and to say that they can pull us takes away the only advantage to our #1 disadvantage...weight. These trucks are a behemoth.

Did you bust your head getting in and out of the Silverado? I sure did.

edit to add, pay no mind to the date on the pic. I forgot to set the date on the cam.

I knew Ford's quality.
Didn't want to attempt to find a good forum.
Higher ride height.
Cheaper insurance.

Does it really matter drum/disc if the braking is comparable? I don't know how the braking compares to a Ford (or Dodge, or Toyota...), but if the braking distance, fade resistance and reliability or comparable, who cares? Drums are cheaper and simpler too.

Drums also hold more heat and fade substantially when towing/hauling a heavy load. Not a situation I want to be in when going downhill!

Your on a Ford truck site. Put downs are part of the deal. How can you compare a real truck to a cheby without a put down? Drum brakes in the rear are strictly a cost cutting measure. There is no way that drums are better. They are not simpiler either. Say it like it is or go home. Cheby can't compete on anything but an emotional level.

The feminization of America.. brought to you by chevy trucks.

How on earth do you get that drum brakes are simpler? There are 2 shoes, 2 retaining clips, 2 tension springs, an E-brake cable, an adjuster wheel, an adjuster bar, an adjuster spring and then a drum. You have to adjust them after installation and have to re-adjust them periodically. If that is simpler then sign me up! I don't know about anyone else, but I can change brake pads in about 20 min. This is for both sides and that includes installing new rotors. They don't fade and stop smoother, faster and in a shorter distance than drum brakes. The disk brakes on the F-150 has the drum style E-brake, but I have rarely seen them in need of replacement. This is of course providing you don't drive around with the E-brake set.
