Anyone thought about a new torque converter?
Anyone thought about a new torque converter?
Has anyone considered puttin in a higher stall torque converter to give the truck better launches under WOT?
Iv'e been thinking about it for a while...
I emailed Edge Racing about their converter.. got this back
"I recommend a custom configured converter from our "Street Edge" series
with stall math set at 2800-3000 rpm and STR set at, or near 2.45.
This converter uses the 245mm (9.5") impeller and turbine (furnace brazed).
The 9.5" impeller is the most efficient impeller ever adapted into
performance applications. With 8 impellers and 8 stators to select from this
converter can be truly custom configured with no cutting or bending inside
the converter. This means better launches are a guarantee, better mid ranges
response is guaranteed and no excess heat or loss of topend, guaranteed!
All the gains while retaining 100% of the manners needed for every day
street use!
All wear surfaces are fitted for enclosed Torrington bearings for less
drag and improved longevity in performance application. The drive hub and
spline insert of made of 4130 chrome moly steel. The lock up feature is
upgraded using the latest "high carbon" friction and anti balloon measure is
standard.
Warranted for a full year with our 100% money back satisfaction guarantee.
The "Street Edge" 4r70w/4r75E sells for 565.00 plus shipping
Please let me know if you have other questions, or call us at 888 350 EDGE"
I haven't called any trans places about install price yet, but I figure about $300-$350 to remove my trans and replace the converter... and re-install.
Any thought/opinions?

What are you trying to achieve? Are you doing a lot of drag racing? I think you would probably have to have the tranny reprogrammed to get full benefit. I just don't see the point of trying to race these big ole trucks. But, it's your truck and if that is fun for you, then why not. Personally, I would get a second vehicle to play with that was quicker and better designed for speed mods.

I am trying to achieve better acceleration under WOT without sacrificing driveability.
When the drag strips are open, I do like to go drag racing... Not for money, but for fun. Running a truck in the high 8's and very low 9's and spanking spanking dodge rumble bees and Silverado SS's (not that they're fast) is quite entertaining to me. A "hobby" if you will.
Anthony, I was thinking the stock stall was about 2200-2300.. Where/ how did you find that info? I wouldn't think 3500RPM would be very suitable for daily driving.
